Ndebele language - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ndebele language, or isiNdebele, or Sindebele, is an African language belonging to the Nguni group of Bantu languages, and spoken by the AmaNdebele (the Ndebele people).
The first group of Ndebele speakers are found in the Limpopo Province (formerly Northern Transvaal or Northern Province) of South Africa around the Towns of Mokopane (Potgietersrus) and Polokwane (Pietersburg).
One of the Ndebele people's famous achievements is that they caught the Afrikaners by surprise and killed one of their leaders Piet Potgieter.

Ndebele people (Zimbabwe) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Matabele are a branch of the Zulus who split from King Shaka in the early 1820s under the leadership of Mzilikazi, a former general in Shaka's army.
During a turbulent period of African history known as the Mfecane, Mzilikazi and his followers, initially numbering about 500 people, moved west towards the area near the present-day city of Tshwane (Pretoria), where they founded a settlement called Mhlahlandlela.
Here they came into contact with the Tswana people, who are credited with giving this band of Zulus the name "Matabele".

Nearly all of the ZIPRA recruits and fighters were Ndebele people, and it was their formidable contribution in the liberation struggle which led to the demise of white colonial power in former Rhodesia.
It is absolutely vital that the Ndebele people seize the passage of Nkomo as a great opportunity of determining once and for all time their own survival on the face of this earth.
The Ndebele people should be absolutely determined never ever to suffer genocide, ethnic cleansing, humiliation and a permanent indignity of being treated worse than dirt in their own historic indigenous land regions, which they the Ndebele people sacrificed for in the struggle against colonialism.

For example, among the Ndebele, the same type of brightly colored and patterned ornamentation is found in clothing and house painting, but not generally on both during the same period.
Ndebele painted houses are a "tradition" that is barely more than 50 years old, although there appears to be an earlier practice of painting house walls with earth-toned colors and an even earlier practice than that of decorating walls by scratching patterns into the wet plaster with one's fingers.
The Ndebele history is a history of being exiled and marginalized, and a history of ongoing contact with western culture, either as the culture of its oppressors or the culture of consumers.
