The Kingdom of Ndongo is first recorded in the fifteenth century.
It was one of a number of vassal states to Kongo that existed in the region, though Ndongo was the most powerful of these.
The Portuguese colony, extending far beyond the Ndongo Kingdom, its name was derived from that of the Ndongo king the ngola, also the source of the name Angola.

Nzingha was born in 1582 to Ndambi Kiluanji, the ngola, king, of the Ndongo tribe and territories, and his second wife, Kangela.
Although she was a widow, Nzingha still refused to lay down her bow and arrow and often went on hunting escapes, her sister trailing behind her, who also both lost their husbands in battle.
Nzingha was declared Ngola Kiluanji of the Mbundu of Ndongo, a prediction made when she was born.

Changing the article title to Nzinga of Ndongo would be alright with me but I do have two concerns; one that there was more than one Nzinga and to that she also ruled over Matamba.
Yes it was, Nzinga conquered Matamba with the help of her allies and then used it in turn to reconquer Ndongo and then, I assume, ruled over them both, I assume, as seperate but unifed kingdoms, similar to Austria-Hungary or Poland-Lithuania.
