If it's an 030 Cube with or without an OD, I'd pass it up as it's fairly easy to come by these systems, probably for less than the value of the laptop.

The low-profile vertically mounted 4 MB SIMMs are easier to install in the NeXTcube than the horizontally mounted 4 MB SIMMs because of the small height clearance above the SIMM slots.
It is possible to install the horizontally mounted 4 MB SIMMs, but you will be required to slide the CPU board and the center tower in simultaneously.
The faster CAS access time in particular allows the memory system to respond quicker to burst (16 bytes) bus transfers.

I haven't had a IMHO the monitor etc shippiing exceeds the value, before considering the laptop which is a much easier to trade/sell item.
OTOH if it was a very complete and working system, AND it was something you want to play with, what the heck.

It's actually a NeXTcube with an additional NeXTdimension graphics board and a 16-inch Sony Trinitron color monitor (1,120 x 832 pixels, 32 bits per pixel) in place of the gray-scale monitor.
This allows the user to drag windows across both displays as well as use both monochrome and color displays simultaneously.
If your customer has a NeXTcube with a serial number lower than AAK0016370, the system will only run with both monochrome display and a color display connected.

Throughtout the whole time we were demo'ing our computers to the salivating engineering students, I couldn't help but think what if we swapped computers instead.
the BeOS was inspired quite a bit by the Amiga, while the NeXTCUBE was obviously the brainchild of an Apple co-founder.
Both Sam and I are current Mac fans, but Sam was raised purely out of classic Macs, while I was the result of heavy exposure to various Amigas throughout my childhood.

The NeXTstation was a light version of the NeXTcube.
The magnetic-optical drive has been replaced by a hard-disk, as NeXTcube users found this drive too slow compared to "modern" hard-disks available then.
The thin design of the case didn't make it possible to keep the NeXTbus slots.

Here's my brilliant prognostication: a NeXTCube size box, but with an apple flair.

4) NeXTcube Color System: This version of the NeXTcube has 8 Megs of RAM, can display 4096 colors out of a 16-bit color palette, and has a 1120*832 resolution.
As such, NeXT Inc. is selling the NeXTcube's motherboard to owners of the original NeXT Computer, as an upgrade.

The original NeXTcube was a grayscale only but with the additional Dimension board user could not only add 32 bit color with a processing speed that was ahead of the mainstream at that time, but user also got an integrated framegrabber and live video capabilities.
Like its NeXTstep operating system this box was way ahead of its time when NeXT Computer inc. released it in 1990.
