Djuvara was born in Bucharest, in a family of Aromanian origin that produced several political figures, diplomats and professors.
In contemporary history, the historian cannot create anything that is supposed to last, Djuvara appreciated, because, he explained, he is doomed by the very nature of events to become a witness, a writer of chronicles.
He also stated it is impossible for a historian to be objective, because, according to Djuvara, objective involves something that is not part of human consciousness, and history is all about consciousness.Consequently, Djuvara concluded, the historian's job is to be subjective.

Gelou - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Other characters in the Gesta have been shown to have been invented from toponyms (e.g Zobor).
Romanian historian Neagu Djuvara argued that the name of Gelou could be connected with the ancient Thracian toponym "Gelupara" ("para" means "town") and with the modern toponym of "Gilău", the name of a village and a river in Cluj.

The prize, handed by the historian Neagu Djuvara, was received within the event by Romulus Rusan, the director of the Center of Studies about Communism within the Sighet Memorial.
In his intervention, Neagu Djuvara said that he is proud that he was chosen to hand this prize, because something extraordinary was achieved in Sighet, the idea of a school where youngsters can learn directly what the communist period meant and how an entire old world disappeared.
Thanking for the award, Romulus Rusan stated that the Summer School is trying to make up for the indifference of Romanian institutions towards the country’s past, concluding in saying that the aim of the Sighet Memorial is to recover and make a therapy to the society through the recollection of intellectual dignity.
