 Near-Death Experience
Many if not most of these experiences are not considered real or important by the experiencer, but there are many experiencers who consider their experience to be real and they are profoundly changed by the experience.
Please keep in mind that even these experiences are filtered in the sense that those who do not think the experience carried any significance are not likely to report it.
The unfiltered collection of experiences here are from around 1997, about 20 years after the topic first started gaining interest in the U.S. The experiences seem highly varied, despite the common elements.

 Near-Death Experience - Crystalinks
Many commentators see near death experiences as an afterlife experience, and some accounts include elements that, according to some theorists, are most simply explained by an out-of-body consciousness.
However, this model fails to explain NDEs that result from close brushes to death where the brain does not actually suffer trauma, such as a near-miss automobile accident.A well-known scientific hypothesis that attempts to explain NDEs was originally suggested by Dr. Karl Jansen (1995;1997) and deals with accounts of the side-effects of the drug Ketamine.
The similarities amongst the experiences of the many documented cases of NDE may be understood to signify that the pathology of the brain during the dying and reviving process is more or less the same in all humans, as suggested by Russian specialist Dr. Vladimir Negovsky (Unkn.

Although most of us fear death to a greater or lesser extent, there are now more and more people who have "come back" from states close to death and have told stories of usually very pleasant and even joyful experiences at death’s door.
Kenneth Ring (1980), at the University of Connecticut, surveyed 102 people who had come close to death and found almost 50 percent had had what he called a "core experience." He broke this into five stages: peace, body separation, entering the darkness (which is like the tunnel), seeing the light, and entering the light.
For many experiencers, their adventures seem unquestionably to provide evidence for life after death, and the profound effects the experience can have on them is just added confirmation.
