Nebra skydisk - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is a bronze disk of around 30cm diameter, patinated blue-green and inlaid with gold symbols interpreted by some as a sun or full moon, stars (including a cluster interpreted as the Pleiades) and a crescent with multiple strokes, interpreted as a sun boat with many oars.
The more precise dating of the Nebra skydisk, however, depended upon the dating of a number of Bronze Age weapons which were offered for sale with the disk and said to be from the same site.
According to an analysis of trace elements by x-ray fluorescence by E. Pernicka, University of Freiberg, the copper originated at the Mitterberg in Austria, while the gold is from the Carpathian Mountains.

The Sky Disk of Nebra was not excavated by archaeological experts on site but was found by two treasure-seekers on July 4, 1999, together with a bronze treasure including swords,[19] suggesting that the disk may have been a shield.
The Nebra Sky Disk is unique in many aspects, although we already find the representation of stars by "points" or "dots" in Stone Age caves,[30] on megaliths,[31] in Sumer[32] and in Egypt (as squares).
The solar boat on the Nebra Sky Disk may possibly show the protuberances of the sun,[49] visible during an eclipse, which are probably seen as the oars of the boat.

The Nebra sky disk, associatively dated to ca 1600 BCE, is claimed to have been found at Nebra, Saxony-Anhalt in Germany.
Those who have examined the disk point out that its patina indicates the disk's antiquity although such effects could be produced chemically by a suitably talented counterfeiter to give the impression of age.
British denigrators of the Nebra skydisk link it to the controversy that surrounds the Shroud of Turin.

The arc between openings in the Goseck ditches corresponds closely with a (formerly) gilded arc on the rim of the Nebra skydisk found some 25 km away.
The Nebra disk, measuring 32 centimeters in diameter, dates from 1600 B.C. and is the oldest realistic representation of the cosmos yet found.
It depicts a crescent moon, a circle that was probably the full moon, a cluster of seven stars interpreted to represent the Pleiades, scattered other stars and three arcs, all picked out in gold leaf from a background rendered violet-blue--apparently by applying rotten eggs."

Recalling the conversations we had years ago about a mesopotamian cylinder seal showing sun, moon and other unidentified objects I found that the socalled skydisk, Nebra disk of about 1600 BC see picture at
Thx again for the links, gazing at the Nebra sky disk of say 1600 to 700 BC one could assume an influence of even older mesopotamian astronomy.
But since elements of the picture have been discovered recently at say 4600 BC in the area, it could be possible that mesopotamian astronomy was influenced by this.
