Effect of nebracetam on the disruption of spatial cognition in rats.
Nebracetam reversed the change of brain noradrenaline contents in the frontal cortex and hippocampus in which the noradrenaline content decreased by treatment with scopolamine.
Nebracetam also decreased the delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol (6 mg/kg, i.p.)-induced disruption of spatial cognition, which was reported to be related to the lymbic noradrenergic function.

In situ hybridization analysis in N. benthamiana demonstrated that there was no qualitative difference in the tissue distribution of the two strains although csTGMV accumulated in higher amounts, suggesting that the efficiency of virus movement rather than distinct differences in tissue specificity of the strains is responsible for the symptom phenotypes.
Effect of nebracetam on content of high-energy phosphates and morphometry of rat astrocytes in vitro.
The present study was initiated to examine the effect of nebracetam, a nootropic drug, on various biochemical and morphometric parameters in order to gain some insight into the mechanism of this agent action.

Nebracetam enhances cholinergic neurotransmission','," and acts as a partial agonist presynaptically at muscarinic receptors.
It also reduces dopaminergic and serotonergic uptake'," and inhibits intracellular calcium flux in response to glutaminergic stimulation.' Substantial neuroprotection has been shown in animals with hypoxia and hypoglycaemia.,5'," In animals with dementia, nebracetam improves performance in the working memory of rats dose-dependently.
Nebracetam shows cognition-enhancing effects in mice, and animal experimentation also indicates possible antidepressant properties.

British Journal of Pharmacology - Abstract of article: Effects of delayed treatment with nebracetam on ...
The effects of delayed treatment with nebracetam, a novel nootropic drug, on neurotransmitters of brain regions were examined in rats with microsphere embolism-induced cerebral ischaemia.
Although the microsphere embolism induced significant changes in most of the neurotransmitters and some of their metabolites in the brain regions, the delayed treatment with nebracetam partially restored only the hippocampal 5-HT and the striatal dopamine metabolite contents on the 3rd day.
In vivo striatal dopamine turnover rate of the rats with microsphere embolism was inhibited on the 3rd day irrespective of treatment with nebracetam.

Its precise mechanism(s) of action remains unknown, but in vitro and in vivo studies suggest the drug may diminish nerve cell damage due to ischaemia, correct neurotransmitter defects and/or cerebral metabolism and facilitate memory and learning.
In the small number of studies available for evaluation, idebenone was generally superior to placebo and comparable with bifemelane, oxiracetam and nebracetam on the basis of a number of objective and subjective tests and rating scales in patients with mild to moderate cognitive decline.
Clinical trial results indicate that patients with mild dementia seem more likely to respond than those with greater functional decline.

As part of a research program aiming at the design, synthesis and pharmacological evaluation of a novel lead-candidates of neuroactive compounds, we describe herein the synthesis and the central profile of a new nebracetam analog having a 2-aza-bicyclo[3.3.0]octane system.
The new derivative, designed on the basis of the conformational restriction concept, was synthesized in good yields exploring a diastereoselective reductive-amination and cyclization one-pot sequence.
The pharmacological profile of this new compound, investigated by using path-clamp techniques on neurons of the CNS, indicated no effects on these cells.

Age-Related Cognitive Decline Information from eVitamins
Nootropic drugs are used specifically to facilitate learning and memory and might prevent the cognitive deficits associated with dementias.
Nootropic drugs that are currently being investigated include ergoloid mesylates (Hydergine®, Gerimal®), idebenone (a synthetic analogue of CoQ10 marketed as a “smart drug”), and derivatives of an inhibitory brain chemical called GABA (vinpocetine and bifemelane, which are also known by the investigational drug names piracetam [Nootropil®], oxiracetam, and nebracetam).
In the elderly population of southern Italy, which eats a typical Mediterranean diet, high intake of monounsaturated fatty acids (e.g., olive oil) has been associated with protection against ARCD in preliminary research.
