Nebraska City officials confirmed Wednesday that retail giant Wal-Mart is strongly considering opening a store there.
The building would be on South 11th Street, half a mile north of the street's junction with Nebraska 2 and U.S. 75, said Pat Haverty, executive director of River Country Economic Development Corp. The store, tentatively slated to be a 105,000-square-foot supercenter, could open in late 2006 or early 2007, he said.
Nebraska City has two small discount stores — an Alco and a Pamida — as well as grocery stores, a hardware store and other local businesses, Adelung said.
