The Nebula is an award given each year by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA), for the best science fiction stories published in the United States during the two previous years.
In addition, a Nebula has been awarded for best dramatic script every year since 1999, but SFWA membership is divided about the appropriateness of the award, and the category may not continue long into the future.
Nebula Awards is a registered trademark of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.

Harry Turtledove (born June 14, 1949), is a historian and novelist who is best known for his alternate history fantasy and science fiction works.
The Worldwar series received a Sidewise Award for Alternate History Honorable Mention in 1996.

Probably the best description of my opinion is that I gave this book away before my wife could read it so she wouldn't know what I had bought.

All the other Nebula nominees this year were hardcovers, a fact that gave them greater apparent prestige (I had turned down a hardcover offer from another publisher that had been contingent on my removing the discussion of abortion from my book, something I refused to do).
The Nebula trophy itself is surprisingly heavy block of Lucite nine inches tall, four inches wide, and four inches deep (like Arthur C. Clarke's monolith, the ratio of its width to its height is two-squared to three-squared).
Nowhere on the trophy does it actually say "Nebula Award" — a fact that prompted writer David Nickle to quip "What are you trying to pull, Rob?" when he first saw it.

The 30th Nebula Award collection, while a respectable "year's best" and report on the genre, somehow fails to strike sparks.
The Science-fiction and Fantasy Writers of America chose "A Defense of the Social Contracts" by Martha Soukup as best short story, "The Martian Child" by David Gerrold as best novelette, and "Seven Views of Olduvai Gorge" by Mike Resnick as best novella of 1994.
My problem's that the 2 years best anthologies A. Choose stories that cover the same ground (sometimes the exact stories that get Nebula nominations) and,in some instances, cover it better and B. Cover more ground and have a better variety.

That is, he has written relatively few stories but has a multitude of award nominations and wins, which is why I went into this collection with some high expectations.
The stories all had an imaginative premise (and one where mathematics usually played some role or other), but for me they seemed to lack something in the delivery; some were long-winded, some lacked adequate characterizations.

As mentioned previously, I undertook a project to read the short fiction nominees for the 2005 Nebula Award since all of the nominees were available online this year - a fortunate effect of the Internet Age.
I recently read "the people of sand and slag" and "men are trouble" in "the years best science fiction 22nd annual cellecetion" I haven't read many anthologies or even much short form fiction but "the years best..." really is some of the best Sci-Fi I have read in a long while.
Multiple award-winning SF/fantasy author Carol Emshwiller, whose "I Live With You" won this year's Nebula Award for best short story, told SCI FI Wire that the story is a fantasy about an invisible woman who hides out in another woman's house.
