  Necron - Warhammer 40k
The Necrons are a mysterious race of skeletal warriors that have lain dormant in their stasis-tombs for millions of years.
In combat, the Necrons are unyielding war machines that bring swift death to their prey.
It is often said amongst commanders of more orthodox armies that the Necrons are an overpowerful force on the battle field, due to the fact even a basic warrior can tear through the strongest tanks in the game this is a fair argument to make.

Necrons which have fallen down but not yet been removed are not counted as part of the remaining force, so a Necron army can be defeated if enough models are knocked down even if they are not permanently destroyed.
Although it is unarmed, it almost always accompanies the Necron Warriors using its close proximity to cause weapons and wargear to fail and to weaken large targets allowing the Necron Warriors to move in for the kill.
Necron Destroyers are commonly seen supporting large raids made by the mysterious raiding forces of the Necrons.

Necrons do have to take Morale Checks normally, but a broken Necron Squad that is assaulted will automatically regroup - the Necrons consider their withdrawl in the light of the immediate danger.
Once the number of functioning Necron models is down to 25% or less of the original size of the force, the remainder will automatically phase out using their internal teleporters.
Necron models hit by a weapon that autokills (weapons with a Strength that is twice the Necron's Toughness) are totally annihilated and are removed straight away - there is no chance of self-repair.

When a Necron ship uses the "Brace for Impact" special order, their fine control must be curbed, and the ship's 6+ armour is reduced to 4+.
Even though the Necron capital ships have fairly good turret ratings (3 for the cruisers, 4 for the tombship), they are nonetheless left most vulnerable to ordnance by their inability to intercept it before it reaches their ships.
The most morale-crushing sentiment of all is that the Necrons have robbed the Eldar of their most valuable assets: their speed and maneuverability.

RPGamer - Editorials - Necron's Role   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
I believe Necron, the final opponent fought in Final Fantasy IX, is the central function of the Iifa Tree, the mechanism that interfered with the Cycle of Souls.
Necron being the core mechanism of the Tree would account for the Tree's demise, whereas Necron not being so would leave us to question why the Tree died for seemingly no reason, first going into violent spasms immediately after Necron was defeated, then being dead shortly thereafter.
Necron says "I am eternal" upon being defeated, yes, but that does not necessarily mean that Necron was saying "I have always been and always will be." "Eternal" is ambiguous.
