 BNR Metal Pages -- Necrophagia
Necrophagia's debut, 1987's Season Of The Dead, is regarded as a seminal work in the field of early death metal, deriving from early Slayer and Possessed, but with less emphasis on speed, vocals resembling standard death metal, and decided gore/death-themed lyrics.
Vocalist Killjoy disbanded the group soon after that debut (as the other members wanted to pursue a different direction), recorded a solo album, and then in the late nineties put a new Necrophagia back together, including one "Anton Crowley" (it was a poorly kept secret that this was none other than Phil Anselmo of Pantera).
More gore/horror-infested than ever before, Necrophagia continues to be active, and Killjoy has his hands in several other bands as well, including The Ravenous.

Veteran American band Necrophagia, that is Frank Killjoy and his increasingly international cohorts, have outdone themselves with a grindingly brutal album that throws one potent chord after the other.
Nothing says 'cheesy death metal' like a Necrophagia DVD and the most recent one is not going to scrape the fondue off the ceiling either.
Whether Killjoy and his undead disciples see the humour in their work is a good question, because on face value they are quite serious about slashing mannequins, handling cows' hearts and livers, the fake blood running down girls' breasts and desecrating models' bodies.

Necrophagia - Biography - AOL Music
Along with San Francisco's Possessed and Florida's Death, Ohio's Necrophagia were one of the pioneering death metal bands of the mid-'80s.
Eventually, he also decided to resurrect the Necrophagia name with the help of guitarist Anton Crowley (aka Anselmo yet again), bassist Dustin Havnen, and drummer Wayne Fabra for 1998's Holocausto de la Morte, 1999's Black Blood Vomitorium EP, and 2000's Legacy of Horror, Gore and Sickness collection.
This sudden flurry of activity persisted into a new deal with Season of Mist Records, which issued the Cannibal Holocaust EP in 2001 and the Divine Art of Torture album in 2003.

Necrophagia is a hardcore, death metal band that has had a long, underground career based around their connections with horror films.
I personally don't much care for the music, but at least Necrophagia is an honest group who haven't diluted their style or image to gain more popularity or listeners.
If you're into this kind of music, I suspect Necrophagia will probably impress you with their overall styling, although to be honest, I felt as if perhaps it was a little on the immature side.

Granted, Necrophagia is an acquired taste, and if your tastes in music run to the synthesized stylings of Yanni or the fluff-goth pop-angst of My Chemical Romance, then you're probably not going to find much to grab onto here.
That said, Necrophagia has always had the gift of being able to capture the very aural essence of your favorite horror movies.
There's an urgency to the music, but it's clear that Necrophagia are working in the genre/style that they love most.

After 13 years of existence, NECROPHAGIA knows what the death metal genre is all about (as they were one of the originators) and can always be relied upon to dish out original, non-trendy Death Metal filled with gore and insane cirtuosity.
NECROPHAGIA truly defines the way this genre should be headed.
Unlike a lot of bands, Necrophagia has never tried to follow the metal trend of the moment and this album proves it.

 D.O.A. (Reviews 10 July 99 - NECROPHAGIA)
or Broken Hope, Necrophagia's music is much more streamlined & raw yet not so brutal & it has been strictly dedicated to Lucio Fulci (a very talented horror/gore film maker) and the band even cite their main influences on music as being movies directed by this great man...
Anyway, Necrophagia is once again led by mainman Killjoy who has somewhat matured in his singing since the first album & there's also someone called Anton Crowley playing guitar on this album rumoured to be Phil Anselmo of Pantera.
Overall, on a personal basis this album & the rest of the Necrophagia hype failed to catch my attention & I kinda' regretted picking up this digipak although many other friends of mine say that this is an excellent album.

For those not familiar with Necrophagia, they are one of the few true horror-metal bands.
Not death metal in the vein of Cannibal Corpse, or the boring, over-rated, death grind of Mortician; Necrophagia unearth their own brand of vile rotten metal.
Not until the late 90s, when (pantera's) Phil Anselmo dusted off his Necronomicon and resurrected Necrophagia with, from what I understand, and album he pretty-much wrote himself (at least musically).

I was a big fan of death metal in the late 80's and early 90's, but I lost touch with it for almost ten years when every new band that came out seemed to sound like someone else.
Well, I say Necrophagia is death metal, but there is just so much more taking place on "Goblins Be Thine" that it's hard to just pigeon hole them into that one category.
I guess that a lot of this change of style may have to do with the fact that Necrophagia now has members of other metal bands in its rank now.

One band that has been catching my attention over the past few years is Necrophagia.
Lyrically Necrophagia describes itself as a gore-metal band and the lyrics are soaked with death and dismemberment, but nothing a Cannibal Corpse fan couldn't handle.
As it stands though, Necrophagia's Holocausto de la Morte is simply a good metal CD, nothing more, nothing less.

Back when Necrophagia reformed a few years back, I was rather disappointed in their "comeback" album "Holocausto de la Morte".
It wasn't a terrible album, but it was rather noisy and a bit too unstructured for me. Phil Anselmo's guitarwork on that album ruined it for me to be fully honest with you.
Iscariah probably had a hand in taking Immortal's sound into the Thrash realm on their later albums, so maybe he's the one responsible for this sound in Necrophagia, I don't know.
