The PS2 NFSU is completely compatible with the online portion of the PC NFSU game which is one of the main reasons that the PS2 version rules the roost overall.
When NFSU goes online, the action spews forth thick and fast, but sadly, Xbox gamers will be left cursing their split-screen TV mode and EA's decision to not get onboard with Xbox Live's valuable online service.

Although I didn't get a chance to see it at E3, my editorial compatriots were adamant that Need for Speed: Underground was one of the top-tier games of the show.
Need for Speed: Underground has all of the style and tone of the original, actually somewhat relevant to The Fast and the Furious movie, and adds extremely solid gameplay on top of it.
The slick pavement effect (and I mean that literally -- slick as in wet and shiny, although it's pretty damn slick in the other sense as well) really heightens the street racing feel, and the twinkling lights of the night cityscapes are plenty atmospheric.

I never really was a big fan of the Need For Speed series, I owned the first game, and hated the rest, mainly because of the unrealistc handling and cars that are impossible to own in real life.
After about race 86 in Underground mode, the game kicks in a handicap, allowing the AI to reach speeds of over 400km/h, but that keeps the challenge level up in the later stages of the game.
Need for speed underground is one of the best games I have ever seen.
