"Negaraku" or "Negara Ku" is the national anthem of Malaysia.
"Negaraku" was selected as a national anthem at the time of the Federation of Malaya's independence from Britain in 1957.
Traditionally Negaraku was introduced with a short drum roll "which beckons the audience to attention, and heralds a stately pace, where the nation sings its pledges of loyalty to King and country.

DAP is relieved that the nation has been spared the disastrous and ridiculous spectacle of a nation divided by two national anthems, Tunku’s Negaraku since Merdeka in 1957 and Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad’s Malaysiaku.
Only this morning, one of the questions posed in a Mandarin radio programme to its phone-in listeners was the new name for the national anthem from August 31.
It is reported that “the only change” to the national anthem on August 31 is that “the pace of the song will be slightly slower than the 1992 version which was done in march style” and that the last line – Raja kita, selamat bertakhta – will end in a crescendo.

Another story about the origin of Negaraku was related by Raja Kamarulzaman, son of Raja Mansur who used to serve as aide-de-camp to Sultan Idris.
According to these sisters, the first time they heard the tune, now known as that of Negaraku, was in Mahe, one of the Seychelles islands, where their father, the former Sultan of Perak, lived in exile.

Imagine singing Negaraku and later one big beer advertisement or tampon advertisement appear on the screen....
I believe that having Negaraku sung before concert is appropriate, but I don't think that having Negaraku sung before cinema screening would be appropriate.
I have been in US and Singapore, and in both countries, their national anthem is played before all functions, including entertainment events.

Our national anthem will be rearranged yet again for the second time in just over a decade (news originally appeared in yesterday's Utusan Malaysia).
Not only that, the lyric Negaraku will be changed to Malaysiaku to supposedly "instil a deeper sense of love for the nation among the people".
Anyway, in light of all this, I've decided to release a Negaraku polyphonic ringtone for all you patriotic polyphonic phone owners out there and a special remix version of it done by yours truly in a fit of insanity back in 1995.

The lyrics wouldn't be changed, only the melody and tempo as well as the beat.
It's strange, the "Negaraku" we sing in school is still based on the old melody.
I'm pretty sure that we have already reverted back to the slower paced original Negaraku albeit with some subtle differences.

I think Negaraku is fine the way it is even though I have to admit it’s abit slow and all.

So,the answer to this is our National Anthem Melody is a Copy and it's a 3rd Copy after the indonesian copied it before we did.

Frankly, people are just sick and tired at being subjected to policies and guidelines that no village idiot in his wrong mind would think of doing.
Getting people to stand up and sing Negaraku in cinemas is not going to make their lives any better, it only makes them despise the stupidity behind the move.
There are lots or reasons I will want to join other Malaysians in singing Negaraku, just that I don't see watching a movie as any cause to celebrate my patriotism.
