  Positive and negative numbers
The sign of a number refers to whether the number is positive or negative, for example, the sign of -3.2 is negative, and the sign of 442 is positive.
If the number of negative numbers counted in step 1 is even, the product is just the product from step 2, if the number of negative numbers is odd, the product is the opposite of the product in step 2 (give the product in step 2 a negative sign).
The reciprocal of a positive or negative fraction is obtained by switching its numerator and denominator, the sign of the new fraction remains the same.

Negative integers are all the opposites of these whole numbers: -1, -2, -3, -4, -5, ….
If the number of negative integers counted in step 1 is even, the product is just the product from step 2, if the number of negative integers is odd, the product is the opposite of the product in step 2 (give the product in step 2 a negative sign).

According to the textbooks I have, the subtract sign in front of the 3 in the original expression is the same as multiplying (-3) (x) and (-3) (2y).
In my mind, a subtraction sign or addition sign is used in conjunction with two numbers or terms like 3 -2 and a positive or negative sign is used with one number like (-2) to signify whether the value of the number is greater than or less than zero.

Keep the sign of the number with the larger absolute value. Ex: -5 + -3 Signs are the same (both negative) so I add 5 + 3 to get 8 and keep the negative sign.
My answer is negative because the absolute value of -17 (which is 17) is larger than the absolute value of 13 (which is 13).
Since both numbers are negative, I keep the negative sign: -5 + -13 = -18 -5 — 13 = -18 Adding/Subtracting on a number line.

Learning to see and understand negative space as a design element is the first step in learning to read a sign graphically as opposed to culturally, and a major step forward in successful layout.
If the areas of negative space are visually equal within and around a positive space, then, more likely than not, the two elements will compete with each other, compromising the legibility of the letter.
In routine sign work, negative space shouldn't be seen on a conscious level, unless it creates a shape that reinforces the message.
