Neil: You know, that album was taken from a handful of shows during a winter tour last year, and though it is very representative of my routine last year, I think the people that produced it must've used some of the more depressing segments purposely, because I get asked that question a lot.

 Neil Hamburger
Neil's an ersatz tenth-rate comedian character created by Greg Turkington, and the concept is simple: Neil sucks.
In the Neil Hamburger context, that means sudden, almost tourettes-like outbursts of gratuitous profanity, puerile dirty jokes and wanton, tasteless attempts to be edgy.
The beauty of Neil Hamburger is that he really thinks his material is funny; to him, the audience inexplicably fails to get his hysterical jokes.

It is meant to be a smooth transition between subject matter, but it seldom is. Neil Hamburger turns this device into a train wreck, and the beneficiary is the audience.
By turning the focus of the performance back on itself, Hamburger is deconstructing his own method before our avid eyes, and represents what may happen in the future, by helping us destroy the past.

Neil Hamburger, the revered stand-up comedian and recording artist for Drag City records will be performing Sunday at the Cat in the Cream at 8 p.m.
Hamburger began his career as a recording artist with Amarillo records, releasing two hilarious singles, Looking for Laughs and Bartender the Laugh’s on Me, in 1994 and 1995, respectively.
Hamburger is a veteran of the comedic circuit for over 15 years, however, and has likely seen enough rotten tomatoes that even the most ruthlessly humorless won’t challenge his poise and wit.

Neil Hamburger - Free Music Downloads, Videos, CDs, MP3s, Bio, Merchandise and Links
Despite his appalling comic timing, muddled delivery, and cliched material, stand-up Neil Hamburger nevertheless emerged as one of the most acclaimed and name-checked comedians of his generation; like Lenny Bruce before him, he was a hipster icon whose trailblazing riffs defied conventions at every turn, transcending the confines of hilarity with kamikaze recklessness.
Hamburger's solo debut, the Looking for Laughs EP, followed a year later, and after issuing Bartender, the Laugh's on Me on the tiny Planet Pimp label, he moved to Drag City for his 1996 full-length debut, appropriately titled America's Funnyman.
Hamburger remains the iron horse of comedy, touring non-stop, releasing new albums like 2000's Inside Neil Hamburger, and, one hopes, continuing work on his long-planned religious comedy LP, Laugh Out Lord.

Neil is a great character, more hateful yet endearing than anything that Saturday Night Live has come up with in the past decade and a half - unless, of course, he's a real guy, in which case, he's a repulsive throwback to the bad comedy of yesteryear.
Hamburger anyway (according to Turkington, Hamburger on a recent Australia tour had to resort to pretending he was wheelchair-bound to stop the rowdy spectators from throwing bottles at him), but part of the fun of his CDs are hearing the audience get belligerent towards him (and vice-versa).

Self proclaimed “America’s Number One Funnyman” was back in Sydney for the upteenth time last week to deliver another dose of his so-bad-it’s-good comedy to an audience of converts and the glaringly uninitiated, judging by many of the totally nonplussed/offended/angered members of the crowd.

Neil was (un)ably supported by the worst magician ever seen, El Suavo, and the night was MC’d by the irrepressable Jay Katz of Sounds Of Seduction and FBi’s Naked City fame, who showed some amazingly crazed filmclips from bygone eras to warm up the crowd.
