 VH1.com : Neil Innes : Biography
Although the retiring Innes was never the onstage focus of the Bonzos, preferring to quietly play guitar and keyboards in the back while the master showmen Stanshall, Smith, and Spears hogged the limelight, he quickly became the group's musical leader.
Although all of the Bonzos wrote, Innes' melodic gifts were soon obvious, and his talent for melding sharply satiric lyrics with sweetly catchy pop songs in a variety of musical styles was the secret weapon that kept the group from being just a wacky British version of the Mothers of Invention.
Innes has spent most of his time since the mid-'70s working in television, writing and starring in children's shows like The Raggy Dolls and Puddle Lane for British television, as well as collaborating with Python alums Terry Jones and Eric Idle on various projects.

Judging by the comments left in the review book and some distinctive and uncontrollable laughter, it was the humour of Neil Innes's musical and spoken journey through his entire career which appealed to most of the audience.
Most memorable of all for me, though, was the mention of how, while recording at Abbey Road, Neil sneaked off to overhear The Beatles recording 'I Want To Tell You', followed by a snatch of the same, in which he highlighted the demented piano part.
Sadly, Neil didn't do that gag, but listening to his songs from that period made the 70s sound a lot more acceptable than they were first time around.

When people think of musical satirists, they think of "Weird Al" Yankovic song parodies when they should be thinking of Neil Innes, a guy who composes original music that slyly sends up artists and genres.

The one album (with bonus singles tracks) "Lucky Planet" was issued on the Liberty label in 1971 and appears on CD for the very first time and it`s first re-issue since the original vinyl LP.
