 | | NEIL KIRTON (Associate Minister of Health): Pharmac advises that it has made savings totalling $78 million in the period between its establishment in July 1993, and June 1996. |
 | | NEIL KIRTON: The savings that Pharmac has generated as a result of negotiations leading to a reduction in the prices paid for some pharmaceuticals, or as a result of therapeutic group reviews, are being reinvested in purchases of other health services, including improved access to pharmaceuticals---for example, cholesterol-lowering drugs. |
 | | NEIL KIRTON: The issue of that particular drug is one best left to Pharmac and the experience that it has in determining where it should lie in the schedule. |
