THE CINEMA LASER DVD REVIEW-- NEKROMANTIK
NEKROMANTIK is a German horror movie on the extreme fringe of the genre, whose subject matter is certain to offend a large percentage of the population.
The plot of NEKROMANTIK deals heavily with the fetish of necrophilia, so anyone who has difficulty with the graphic visualization of someone having sex with a corpse had better stay away from this film.
NEKROMANTIK is not a film that will appeal to every taste, but if this movie floats your boat, then you can’t go wrong with Barrel Entertainment’s great little DVD.

Nekromantik - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
NEKRomantik is a 1987 German horror film directed by Jörg Buttgereit.
An example of the movie's "audacious imagery" is in one of the last scenes, in which Rob is seen ejaculating while killing himself with a knife.
The film has spawned a sequel, Nekromantik 2, by the same director.

Nekromantik is, as I thought, an extremely weak film, which only succeeds in shocking the viewer with grotesque visuals and perverted animal violence culminating in murder and suicide.
Nekromantik is full of disgusting displays of necrophilia; Rob and Betty are shown making love to slimy decomposed corpses which can upset the stomach.
Nekromantik can be slow and dull at parts with scenes and footage, which seem completely out of place and redundant - this was an obvious effort to flesh this film out to 75 minutes.

In the infamous German underground film Nekromantik 2 (Jörg Buttgereit, 1988), female sexual desire manifests itself in the perverse arena of necrophilia.
In 1987, German art-house director Jorg Buttgereit unleashed "Nekromantik" on an unsuspecting festival circuit provoking waves of outrage and the film to be banned in several countries, including his own.
The problem with the Nekromantik films though is that they're such sick cinematic puppies that lavishing too high praise could be misinterpreted by others as tantamount to endorsing necromancy, cat-bashing, rabbit-skinning and seal clubbing.

Nekromantik is a parable of dysfunctionality that works on two levels -- it’s about the impotent sexual relationship of the lovers on screen and it’s about the (sexual?) relationship between horror film audiences -- and, perhaps, horror film directors -- and death.
In a scene that emphasizes the discourse of a TV psychologist who rattles on about coming to terms with a fear of corpses, Buttgereit’s nec-romanticism is postulated as the psychological process that helps us come to grips with necrophobia -- the fear of dead bodies, or of death itself.
While a first viewing of Nekromantik has boundless capacity to shock and sicken, a repeated viewing -- and the assurance that the corpses are really props, the carnage really a special effect -- exposes Buttgereit’s intentions.

Monsters At Play: Nekromantik 2 Review
Nekromantik 2 begins with an opening credit sequence that runs over some familiar footage from the final act of the first film (just to remind us, in case we had forgotten).
Like many of Jorg Buttgereit's films, the second Nekromantik is NOT dialogue driven, heck it's a good 20-minutes into the film before there's even any dialogue at all, and the film remains more a subtler slice of life than your typical linear cinematic story.

This disappointing sequel to the infamous "Nekromantik" starts with a young woman, named Monika (the hauntingly attractive Monika M), digging up the grave of Robert, the necrophile murderer who committed suicide at the end of the first film, and taking the body home with her.
The first "Nekromantik" was (a strange dream sequence aside) a lean, straight to the point film that tackled the grotesque subject of Necrophilia head-on and was a simple, yet highly effective piece of extreme cinema.
This hideous operation is shown in long and grizzly detail as Monika cuts the body up (and for once this is shown to be realistically hard to do, as she sweats and wipes the rot over her face) and places the bits into plastic bags which she dumps back into his grave.

The intensity of the Nekromantik experience remains as vivid today as it was thirteen years ago, when I saw the film for the first time on a decrepit, nth-generation bootleg videotape -- both a testament to Buttgereit's skill behind the lens and a hallmark of a true classic work of cinema.

With Nekromantik, first-time feature director Jorg Buttgereit mixes cheap gore, transgressive imagery, and cosmic dread into a cult-classic examination of sex, death, and boredom among the youth of pre-reunification Germany.
Although it received its German premiere in 1988, work on Nekromantik started in late 1986, when Buttgereit, the veteran of several shorts, began fashioning the corpse that would figure so heavily in the story; the director knew that without a realistic-looking prop, the project wouldn't be worth filming in the first place.
As Nekromantik's cult following grew slowly in Germany, then abroad, rumors abounded that the filmmakers had used actual dead bodies during the shoot.

 Nekromantik
