Nemesis the Warlock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nemesis the Warlock is a comic strip created by writer Pat Mills and artist Kevin O'Neill which appeared in the pages of the weekly comic book 2000 AD.
Nemesis was revealed as a demonic alien with a face based on the nose of his car, fighting to protect aliens from Torquemada's genocidal tyranny, although his inhuman attitude and anarchic "Khaos" philosophy made his motivations ambiguous.
Nemesis the Warlock have been released as a game made for use on Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum computers.

The ABC Warriors - Nemesis The Warlock
As self-proclaimed leader of the Cabal, an interplanetary alien alliance, Nemesis is regarded throughout the Universe as a saviour and the greatest opponent of human atrocities waged against the so-called deviants.
He is therefore a natural nemesis for The Warlock and this may well have more to do with their enmity than alien's desire to save the universe from the ultimate fascist.
Purity Brown, a human and faithful lieutenant to Nemesis, was shocked by this new side of Nemesis, but he managed to convince her that he had spoken in anger and his heroic status was restored.

 Box Office Prophets: Warlock
With Julian Sands as the eponymous sorcerer and Richard E Grant as his nemesis, Redferne, Warlock boasts a talented cast whom one could readily accept would convince a modern girl that such things are warlocks and spells and methods for traveling across time are real.
Probably the best thing about Warlock - aside from Redferne, who I’ll discuss in a moment - is that you can’t really figure out the plot in the first five minutes, even though you get the basics of what the Warlock intends within the first 20.
But Warlock is worth catching more than once, and if you don’t feel like trotting out to your local Blockbuster, never fear; you can catch Warlock during one of its periodic runs on cable.

O'Neill seems to have been strongly influenced by Hieronymus Bosch in the 'Nemesis' series - great stuff - though you get the impression that if you looked at it too long, you could lose your mind.
Nemesis was later drawn by Bryan Talbot who went on to draw 'Sandman' - O'Neill of course has moved on to 'League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen'.

Pat Mills's Nemesis the Warlock adopts a slightly different approach, incorporating a literally draconian alien, metaphorically draconian space-Inquisitors and an insanely intricate hollow future Earth.
Between the two, this collection is ideal either as an introduction to Nemesis, or a pleasing artefact for the dedicated fan.
Having read countless 2000 AD stories in the past, this has to be one of the best graphic novels to spring from the comic books pages- it reprints the first comics that Nemesis appeared in- and its one of those books that once you start reading you and can't put down.

Nemesis in particular, featuring a morally ambiguous alien hero fighting a despotic human empire, allowed Mills to work out his feelings towards religion and imperialism.
Another strand of his 2000 AD work was Sláine, a barbarian fantasy based on Celtic mythology and neo-paganism, which he co-created with his then wife Angela Kincaid.

Set in a real nightmare of a future Earth, renamed Termight and under the heels of the fanatic Torquemade, this visual stunner of a series placed sword-and-sorcery conceits in the far future and won huge acclaim.
The eternal struggle between Nemesis and Torquemada was immensely entertaining from its 1980 inception to, say, Book VII in 1987, but it plodded quite a bit, and as you see, not really doing much for ten years.
Happily, some dangling subplots were handled in the tenth and final book at the end of 1999, with fl-and-white art by Henry Flint, and a grand finale episode drafted by O'Neill himself in the legendary prog 2000.
