Since the Neo Geo was first released by SNK back in 1990, practically every title released for the arcade machine (known as MVS, Multi Video System), has also been released as an identical home console version.
The Neo Geo Gold System, which consisted of the console, two controllers, and a pack-in game, originally retailed for $699.00, with new games around $250.00.
Unfortunately the Neo Geo CDZ was never released in the U.S. and can only be acquired as an import, and needs a language switch mod in order to play all games in English.

Neo-Geo Pocket Color - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It was a 16-bit color hand held game console designed by SNK, the makers of the Neo Geo home console and arcade machine.
It came after SNK's original Neo Geo Pocket monochrome handheld, which debuted in 1998 in Japan (and was released in the USA in 1999).
However, it was hurt by several factors, such as the Neo Geo heads' legendary lack of communication with third-party developers, and anticipation of the Game Boy Advance.

Neo-Geo CD Hardware - Reader Review - GameFAQs
There are some rarer versions of the console, and the most sought after is the Neo Geo CDZ.
The main problem SNK had with it's home system, the Neo Geo AES, was that tha machine itself was expensive and the games also cost a lot of money, and as so only the rich could afford it.
The machine itself looks nice, and has the same amount of power as the normal Neo Geo AES, and so the games on this machine look exactly the same as the arcade versions.

Nowadays, SNK uses (abuses?) the Neo·Geo hardware in products such as the Neo Mini prize redemption machine, the Candy Catcher ("The Next Evolution in Candy Crane Games") lame-ass crane-and-candy contraption, and of course, the grandmother of them all, the Neo Print mall photo-to-sticker booth.
As the last 16-bit Neo·Geo games remain in the arcades, SNK is looking toward the future with the Hyper Neo·Geo 64 coin-op machines.
Although the console was still a little expensive and came with more console-like control pads, the CD format allowed for dramatically decreased prices and much better sound and music.

Slashdot Neo-Geo : The Game Console That Won't Die
Neo Geo had the same main processors as a sega Genesis (A 68000 and a Z80).
As I've said in other posts, I've never actually seen a Neo Geo in action in real life, but judging from other cartridge-based systems, a fast computer is actually faster for Neo Geo games because you don't even have to wait for the machine to boot up.
That's an ironic thing to say, considering that in the first 2 or 3 years, the selling point of the Neo Geo was it's graphics and sound (everyone was wowed by the amount of speech!), and the games mostly played like crap.

Neo Geo - The Future Is Now feature on NTSC-uk
The Neo Geo system today is a paradox: it is both a ‘retro’ console (the machines are not in production) but one for which there are still games being developed and marketed.
On top of this, the Neo Geo CD had long loading times that made a nonsense of the games’ arcade heritage, and even a later revision of the hardware – the CDZ (with a larger RAM cache for faster loading times) failed to excite the public’s interest.
The reasons behind this stem from the nature of the hardware: the Neo Geo was created in 1990 by SNK (Shin Nihon Kikaku, or ‘New Japan Project’) as both an arcade and a home system.
