I sat this morning at a table outside a small eatery bordering the Nepean Highway, all eight lanes of it and that doesn't include the service road.
In my childhood, the Nepean Highway consisted of one seriously congested lane each way and was no more or less than a gasoline alley.
On the side of the highway nearest my home were houses, long gone for additional lanes, in which people could be heard choking late into the night.

Three people were taken to hospital suffering back and hip injuries after the car allegedly struck five cyclists on the Nepean Highway in Bentleigh about 6am.
The cyclists were among a pack of 30 riding in the left hand, south-bound lane of the Nepean Highway.

The most direct way is to follow the Nepean Highway from Melbourne; just before Mordialloc (at Melway 87, E 10), take a left turn onto White Street; turn right onto Boundary Road (at Melway 87, K 7), which becomes Wells Road.
At Frankston, continue onto the Moorooduc Highway without diverging, as the Moorooduc Highway feeds onto the Mornington Peninsula Freeway, and you are minutes from Dromana.

Westfield Managing Director Steven Lowy said the retail bridge over the Nepean Highway had become a new landmark for south eastern Melbourne - but shoppers inside the new two level Galleria would not realise they were crossing eight lanes of a major highway carrying 80,000 cars a day.
