Nephilim - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the Torah, the Anakim are the descendants of Anak, and dwelt in the south of Palestine, in the neighbourhood of Hebron.
Nephilim is a role-playing game by Chaosium, in which the players take on the roles of ancient spirits that can move from one human incarnation to another.
The Nephilim are a race of beings from a parallel plane that interact with humans in Gregory Keyes's tetralogy, The Age of Unreason.

Who / what were the Nephilim?
Answer: The Nephilim (fallen ones, giants) were the offspring of sexual relationships between the sons of God and daughters of men in Genesis 6:1-4.
The Nephilim were not aliens, they were literal, physical beings produced from the union of the sons of God and daughters of men (Genesis 6:1-4).
Immediately after the Nephilim are mentioned, God's Word tells us this, "The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.

The Nephilim were apparently a race of impressive physical stature compared to the smaller Hebrews, from Numbers 13:33.

Genesis 6:4 states "The Nephilim were on the earth in those days --and also afterwards-- when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them.
They were the heroes of old, men of renown." The Nephilim were a race of giants that were produced by the sexual union of the sons of God (presumably fallen angels) and the daughters of men.
Genesis 6:5 alludes to the corruption that the Nephilim had caused amongst humans and themselves: "The Lord saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become..." Their evil rebellion had incurred both the wrath and grief of God.

Who are the sons of God and the Nephilim?
The Nephilim were on the earth in those days - and also afterward - when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them.
The Nephilim were simply "heroes", not giants, and may or may not have been the offspring of the mixed marriages.
To support the "Nephilim weren't offspring of the marriages" view: Gen 6:4 doesn't explicitly say the Nephilim were offspring, only that they showed up at the same time the intermarriage was happening.

 The Nephilim
The Nephilim are first mentioned in the Bible in Genesis 6:4 as the offspring of "the sons of God" and "the daughters of men".
Genesis 6:4 There were Nephilim in the earth in those days and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
It is impossible to be certain whether the Nephilim were the same as the "mighty men" (g i b b gibbôrim) that you find at the end of verse 4 or a separate group that overlapped chronologically.

 Nephilim - CreationWiki
The Nephilim were an antediluvian (pre-flood) race which are referred to in the Bible as giants.
This seems to clearly imply that the Nephilim were also on the Earth after the flood of Noah.
Although the Nephilim are only mentioned one other time in scripture after Genesis 6, during a false report brought back to Moses by the explorers of Canaan, this reference would suggest that the Israelites were familiar with the Nephilim.

Nephilim are Giant offspring due to irruption by fallen angels
Their descendents, called Nephilim (translated "giants"), were monsters of iniquity; and being superhuman in size and in their wicked character, had to be destroyed.
Some have claimed that the Nephilim, or the "sons of God," both mentioned in Genesis 6:2-4, were aliens.
Interestingly, the word Nephilim is only used here and in Numbers 13:33, where it clearly refers to the descendants of Anak, who were big people, but still people.

Straight Dope Staff Report: In the Bible, who were the "giant sons of God"?
The term "The Nephilim were in the earth in those days" would thus mean that the union of the sons of God and daughters of man gave birth to them.
However, it is possible that the Nephilim existed separate from the intermarriages, and the term "were in the earth in those days" just sets the time-frame as antediluvian.
Who the Nephilim and the "sons of God" were is a matter of conjecture and interpretation, and there are lots of different interpretations.

In reviewing the information concerning the Nephilim hybrid teaching the mystery of how this doctrine came to be and why it is that such is being so widely promoted became somewhat apparent and so I will present a brief overview of the situation.
The Nephilim (giants) were there before the sons of God had children and so giantism wouldn't indicate anything as regards angels having sex even if you consider those sons of God to be 'fallen angels' because such giants (Nephilim) existed prior to those sons of God having taken wives.
We are told that the children of the sons of God became mighty men, men of renown, while there is no mention at all here concerning their being half angel and half man; something that would be plainly stated if such were actually the case.

Who Were the Nephilim and Sons of God?
There is somewhat of a controversy in Christianity regarding the identification of the Nephilim and sons of God mentioned in the Genesis flood account (Genesis 6:2-4).
Since the Old Testament describes Nephilim both before and after the flood, if the Nephilim were a race then it would contradict the rest of Scripture, which indicates pretty clearly that there were only eight survivors of the flood.
Genesis 6 also describes the Nephilim, who were the corrupt strongmen of their time, notorious for their violent exploits (Genesis 6:4).

 Nephilim in Genesis and Deuteronomy
Now, in Genesis 6:1-4, the offspring of the Sons of God and the daughters of men are called Nephilim, who are the "heros of old, the men of renown." Literally, the word nephilim means "the fallen ones" and is a common euphemism for "the dead" in Hebrew.
In the original Nephilim story, the cosmic imbalance was not the overpopulation of Earth, but the mating of the Sons of Gods with the daughters of men to produce offspring.
Therefore, in Genesis, the Flood was not a result of the overpopulation of earth (Babylonian) or the mating of the Sons of God and humans (as may have been the original intention of the narrative), but of mankind's increasing evil on earth.

It is significant, however, that the Genesis Apocryphon mentions the Nephilim, and makes reference to the "sons of God" and the "daughters of men" introduced in Genesis 6.
However, the word Nephilim does not mean "giants." It comes from the root "naphal," meaning "fallen ones," and most modern versions of the Bible have left the word "Nephilim" untranslated.

Commentators like Lange trace the word "Nephilim" to the root "Niphal" meaning "distinguished ones." This corresponds perfectly with the "men of renown" at the end of Genesis 6:4, nevertheless it is not a generally accepted translation.
Nephilim denotes that they hurled the word down, themselves fell (naflu) from the world, and filled the world with abortions (nephilim) through their immorality.
In Genesis 6, where the word "Nephilim" is first used, we are told that the Nephilim appeared on the Earth just before the Flood, and that their appearance was the main reason for the Flood.

With just a hint of the mid- 1980s hidden deep in their music, Fields of the Nephilim steered away from the repeated samples and poppy keyboards of the era and focused more on flowing and icy guitar and bass.
It is a curious form of introduction for a man who previously hid himself behind the myth, and the mystery - that refused pictures of himself on the two principal studio albums; hid himself behind curtains of fog onstage; covered himself with flour to better disguise his mortal outlines.
While this picture already imposes a rupture in the tradition, perhaps it also portrays the dis-incarnation of Fields Of The Nephilim, as a "band." The physical break-up of the original group, a disintegration for a recomposition of the FOTN entity around its lone and glorious leader.
