Roman Empire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nero is best remembered by the rumour that he played the lyre and sang during the Great Fire of Rome in 64, and hence "fiddled while Rome burned".
In effect, Nero held Domitian and Quintus Petillius Cerialis the governor of Ostia, who were respectively the younger son and the brother-in-law of Vespasian.
The forced suicide of emperor Nero, in 68, was followed by a brief period of civil war (the first Roman civil war since Antony's death in 30 BC) known as the year of the four emperors.
