It is a fortress of plain, marrying the form of square perfect of 60m on side, primarily consisted an enclosure or courtine flanked of 8 cylindrical turns and an enormous keep of 55 meters perimeters established outside in an angle.
In 1435, Nesles falls to small a 10 year old girl that wife the Governor of Compiegne, Guillaume de Flavy, enticed by its fortune.
Nesles having been used as refuge in Huguenots, one supposes that it is at that time that its dismantling was ordered: roofs, crownings, crenellations disappeared, as well as the higher stages.

Chateau de Nesles was built in 1226 by a great grandson of Louis VI, Comte Robert III de Dreux, on a plan almost identical to the royal Chateau of Dourdan and that of the original Louvre, probably as a show of power and royal blood.
It was during this period that Guillaume de Flavy, governor of Compiègne, who was accused of having betrayed Jeanne d’Arc to the English, inherited Nesles.
Then having served as a refuge for the Huguenots, the crenalleted roof and upper floors were dismantled.

Nesles was in ruins except for its storied mediaeval tower, which shells had only scarred.
Beyond the town was a steep road, recently laid by the pioneers, which climbed to the forest.
Men were killed in Nesles Woods that night, but our check showed us that the 305th had escaped, and we crawled back to bed, and went to sleep, and didn't answer any more alarms until reveille dragged us out.

The Saurus Press - 42nd Rainbow Division Meurcy Farm Battle of the Ourcq River Plaque Dedication
In General Douglas MacArthur's own words, "We...took Meurcy Ferme in (a) hand-to-hand fight...But the center at Seringes et Nesle still held....Their artillery was concentrated; their machine guns east and west of the town raked us fore and aft; but nothing could stop the impetus of that mad charge.
The pursuit, which was begun by the Americans and French on the morning of August 2, had to overcome many hostile machine-gun nests cleverly placed in mutually supporting positions throughout the entire area between the Ourcq and the Vesle Rivers.
On August 3 the division and its attached units, having suffered nearly 6,500 casualties since July 25, was relieved by the 4th Division which, together with the 32d Division on its right, continued to push forward until the Vesle River was reached.

Soon a whole group of poets of the oïl tongue in the North and East -- Conon de Béthune, Grace Brulé, Blondel de Nesles, and especially Thiébaut, Count of Champagne -- set to work to imitate the Provençal compositions.
The epic and the lyric were essentially aristocratic; they addressed themselves to an audience of barons that represented almost exclusively the manners and feelings of the upper classes in the feudal world.
