Nesomyinae - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Malagasy rats and mice are the sole members of the subfamily Nesomyinae.
Other researchers place the Nesomyinae into a large family, Muridae, along with all members of the superfamily Muroidea.
It has been reported that the Nesomyinae is not monophyletic, but this has not been supported in other analyses.

The subfamily Nesomyinae is a diverse group of muroid rodents endemic to Madagascar.
Other authors have recognized Nesomyinae as a group, but placed it within Cricetidae (Miller and Gidley 1918, Simpson 1945) or Muridae (Carleton and Musser 1984, Musser and Carleton 1993).
Recently, the monophyly of Nesomyinae has been supported by molecular data, and nesomyines appear to be the sister group of a clade containing Petromyscinae, Cricetomyinae, Dendromurinae, and Mystromyinae (Michaux et al.

The family has 17 subfamilies; Arvicolinae, Calomyscinae, Cricetinae, Cricetomyinae, Dendromurinae, Gerbillinae, Lophiomyinae, *Murinae*, Myospalacinae, Mystromyinae, Nesomyinae, Otomyinae, Petromyscinae, Platacanthomyinae, Rhizomyinae, Sigmodontinae, and Spalacinae.
Sub-Families Cricetinae, Arvicolinae [also known as Microtinae], Gerbillinae, and Myospalacinae, will hereafter be ignored due to the fact that no "rats" or "mice" are present in these groups.
