 CONGREGATION NETIVOT SHALOM Sabbath Morning Service
Netivot Shalom ("Paths of Peace") is a Conservative congregation which formed in the spring of 1989.
It is traditional in that the majority of the service is conducted in Hebrew, and the order and symmetry adhere to established observance; it is egalitarian in that both men and women participate and equally accept mitzvot (responsibilities and honors).
After reading from the Torah, the Maftir chants the Haftorah, a specific selection taken from the books of the Prophets, at the conclusion of which the Torah is returned to the Ark with a processional that is parallel to that at the beginning of the Torah service.

This non-standard opening is the textual basis of the halakha that a great sage (chakham) can annul a vow (perform hatarat nedarim) by himself (whereas for normal Jews a court of three is required, like we do on Erev Rosh Hashana).
Annulling vows appears only later in the passage, when it speaks of a husband or father annulling a wife's or daughter's vow.
B. For this, we need the second of the Netivot Shalom's two assumptions (quoting the Torat Avot, section Emunat Chakhamim), that the influx of Divine good to the Jewish people in all the generations comes down via its spiritual leaders.

A West Bank settler opposed to Israel's pullout from the Gaza Strip on Wednesday set herself on fire in southern Israel, suffering life-threatening burns on 70 percent of her body, police and hospital officials said.
The 54-year-old woman, whose name was not revealed, was taken to a hospital in southern Israel in serious condition.
The woman had been at a roadblock near the southern town of Netivot since the morning, carrying an anti-Gaza pullout sign, said police spokeswoman Liat Nidam.
