Neurotransmitter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Over 50 neuroactive peptides have been found, among them hormones such as LH or insulin that have specific local actions in addition to their long-range signalling properties.
Neuroactive peptides are made in the neuron's soma and are transported through the axon to the synapse.
Neuroactive peptides are often removed from the cleft by diffusion, and eventually broken down by proteases.

The significant association between plasma levels of HIV-1 RNA and the presence of neurocognitive impairment recognized in the present study supported the hypothesis that the control of plasma viremia could be sufficient in less advanced HIV patients who are affected by mild neurocognitive disorders.
In the later stages of infection, multiple neuroactive drugs could be required to control the local viral replication, the main source of HIV virions in CSF, and to effectively influence the neurocognitive outcome.
In accordance with literature data, zidovudine, stavudine, lamivudine, abacavir, nevirapine, efavirenz, and indinavir satisfied this definition and were considered as neuroactive drugs for the present study purposes.

When I got this Neuroactive album, I was quite eager and hopeful since this band have done a number of great electro songs in the past.
There is still this core essence, however, that will always (hopefully) separate Neuroactive from your generic type-A future-pop acts -- part of it is in the way they write their songs, and the other part is the fact that K. Karjalainen's voice is always top-notch.
So, in summary, Neuroactive can't do wrong by me, as this is the latest in a line of their releases that have pleased me...

 Neurosteriods
Neuroactive steroids – Steroids that accumulate in the brain and regulate neuronal function.
Neuroactive steroids in physiological concentrations regulate neuronal function through their concurrent influence on transmitter-gated ion channels and gene expression.
Progesterone, pregnenolone, DHEA and metabolites made from them are vital neuroactive steroids of the central nervous system that accumulate in the brain after local synthesis or after metabolism of adrenal steroids.

Results revealed that concentrations of neuroactive steroids were uninfluenced by partial sleep deprivation in either the 20 PSD responders or the nine non-responders.

One long term goal of this research is to evaluate the influence of neuroactive steroids on gender differences in human patterns of alcohol intake and the response to alcohol, since males and females differ in endogenous neuroactive steroid levels.
Future studies will measure brain steroidogenesis of neuroactive steroids and the effect of chronic ethanol on neuroactive steroid biosynthesis, with the goal of determining factors responsible for the regulation of synthesis and release of these steroids.

I would describe Neuroactive as a upper echelon synthpop/futurepop band with catchy and very danceable retro synth riffs, heart felt, melancholy and sometimes sorrowful lyrics delivered by a unique sounding down tempo vocalist with deep, smooth singing style.

Now, I'll be the the first to admit that "Phonic Trace" is not a Synth-Pop album, but when most of the disc employs a style of music that was painful to listen to, even a decade ago, I wonder about the motivation of the musicians involved.
Of course, this means that anyone who enjoys both the 80's and 90's electronic music will love this ablum unequivicably, but most people I know are not really fans of retro music becomeing suddenly popular again.
I guess that means that Neuroactive has become a Darkwave band, so Goth's will love them.
