  Reference.com/Encyclopedia/Neuroendocrinology
Neuroendocrinology is the study of the interactions between the nervous system and the endocrine system.
The concept arose from the recognition that the secretion of hormones from the pituitary gland was closely controlled by the brain, and especially by the hypothalamus.
(1913-1971) is considered by many to be the "father" of neuroendocrinology.

 Prince Henry's Institute - Neuroendocrinology
Neuroendocrinology is a discipline which studies the way that the nervous system (neuro-) interacts with the hormonal (endocrine) system.
This group studies the brain and the pituitary gland, which is attached to the base of the brain.
We study the neuroendocrine (hypophysiotropic) cells of the hypothalamus, the cells of the pituitary gland and the feedback mechanisms.

Faculty - Mount Sinai School of Medicine
Neuroendocrinology encompasses the neural control of endocrine secretions, hormonal effects on neural activity and behavior and environmental effects on the CNS which affect hormone secretion.
Other important areas of neuroendocrinology under investigation here already are the brain's role in metabolic regulation, thyroid hormone action for TRH synthesis and brain development, and regulation of blood pressure.
Given that there is a strong group in neuroendocrinology already at Mount Sinai and recognizing that there are explosive developments in neuroendocrine research in relation to disease, it is clear that there is a need to further develop metabolic neuroendocrinology at our institution.

 UMass Magazine Online
Berthold’s experiments, which are the first discussion point in the UMass graduate seminar, “Landmark Papers in Neuroendocrinology,” represent the birth of that field, the study of the interplay between hormones and the nervous system.
This center, meant to promote research and training in neuroendocrinology, was formed in 1998 under the direction of UMass Psychology Professor and alumnus (’73, ’77G) Jeffrey Blaustein.
Just as predicted, once the UMass neuroendocrinology contingent coalesced into a center — unified by a shared objective rather than an edifice — it earned a five-year, $800,000 training grant from the National Institutes of Health, and it initiated a now nationally recognized yearly symposium.
