The difficulties of lateralizing and localizing the site of a seizure focus in the frontotemporal distribution of the brain have been addressed through a novel surgical approach that allows for the placement of electrodes encompassing both frontal lobes and the medial and lateral surfaces of both temporal lobes.
The purpose will be to determine both the specificity and sensitivity of this approach in assessing an epileptogenic area of the brain in concert with electroencephalo-graphic findings, ictal and interictal HMPAO single photon emission computed tomography, and neuropsychological assessment.
