Neurosis (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Neurosis is an experimental metal band with elements of indie/industrial/hardcore/crust plus influences ranging from hardcore punk and sludge metal to dark ambient, industrial, and tribal music.
In late 1985, the band began as a crossover thrash outfit and has gradually progressed through a variety of styles, arriving at a unique and profound mixture of heavy metal and acoustic, minimalistic ambience which has proved influential on the doom metal scene.
Although Neurosis has been lumped into the crossover thrash genre, probably because of their previous hardcore style, the band has steadily evolved into a musical whirlwind of what one may refer to as an Apocalyptic folk sound.

Tartarean Desire Webzine - Neurosis & Jarboe live review
As an exclusive concert, Neurosis teamed up with ex-Swans singer Jarboe (whom they worked with on their 2003 album "Neurosis & Jarboe") on July 21st to play songs from that album live for the first time ever and also to debut the material from their new album, "The Eye Of Every Storm".
Seeing as this was Neurosis' first ever concert with Jarboe, and there would be no opening acts, and further Ð it was a debut performance for the band's new material as well Ð I was quite eager to catch the show.
Neurosis continued with a few more songs, mixing in ones from the new album with songs from their album "A Sun That Never Sets".

The albums and concerts by Neurosis or their alter ego Tribe of Neurot are exceptional, almost mystical experiences: from "Enemy of the sun" to "Times of Grace" and "Souls at zero", great cold and dark waves roll over your ears, destroying all narrow-minded conceptions of music.
Neurosis is a tribe, a pack of solitary wolves, who prefer their own company to success-leading compromises.
Neurosis is dark, terrifying, their lyrics haunted and their music sounds the knell of mainstream, tamed metal.

Neurosis --- Official Relapse Records Band Page
NEUROSIS (Steve Von Till (vocals / guitar), Dave Edwardson (bass / vocals), Jason Roeder (drums), Noah Landis (keyboards) and Scott Kelly (guitar / vocals)) have continuously evolved, growing stronger and more complete, to become the formidable collective that they are today.
The band followed the release of Through Silver In Blood by lending their talents to the innaugural OZZFEST tour, canvasing the U.S. with the legendary BLACK SABBATH.
In 2004, Neurosis unleashed The Eye of Every Storm, their most mature and assured effort to date, as well as issueing a series of "official" bootlegs through their Neurot imprint and a startling collaboration with Swans diva Jarboe.

If you've walked into Aquarius, you've at least heard of Neurosis, the Oakland collective-band that during their 14-some years of existence have combined punk energy and a visionary, spiritually tinged populism with an edgy, ever evolving artistic sensibility that explores new territory with each new album.
While my guess is that longtime Neurosis fans are most excited about The Eye of Every Storm, it's Neurosis and Jarboe, the band's 2003 tape-trading collaboration with Jarboe, which took some years to bear fruit, that offers at least some of the ingredients missing from much contemporary art.
Neurosis, it seems, aren't looking for fans but for fellow travelers to follow them into the eye of the storm.

Neurosis will tell you, it's better to be smaller, stronger and whole than to be bigger, fractured and weak.
Neurosis went through challenges that would have broken everyone else in two, but when your path is exactly that challenge, when the ugliest adversities can find redemption in your own chosen form of expression, then the results will only ever be explosive.
So Neurosis were invited to take their thoughts to a bigger carnival in the shape of the highly successful Ozzfest.

After a few months went by, Matt started looking for new band members to try and create new and originally styled music that still had the essence of a catchy rock song with heavy guitar hooks.
The band name was discovered while Matt was doing an English research project on psychological disorders, and stumbled across the disease "Sunday Neurosis" on accident.
About 8 months after the band was formed, they recorded their first full-length album "Perspective", which contained ten fast-paced, heart-pounding rock anthems and two beautifully melodic acoustic jams.

Neurosis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Neurosis, also known as psychoneurosis or neurotic disorder, is a "catch all" term that refers to any mental imbalance that causes distress, but, unlike a psychosis or some personality disorders, does not prevent rational thought or an individual's ability to function in daily life.
Neurosis is no longer used as a formal term in modern psychology in English-speaking countries; the American DSM-IV has eliminated the category altogether.
Neurosis should not be mistaken for psychosis, which refers to more severe disorders.

Veterans of the hardcore/goth/metal circuit, the Bay Area quintet are approaching their 20th year together, and late in their career, they've finally found the perfect studio whiz to collaborate with.
However, unlike Meshuggah, Neurosis tale their trademark sound and completely strip it down to its basics; there is no intricate guitar work, nor any drum flourishes, providing listeners with some of the most disciplined, restrained metal music we've heard in years.
The band's metamorphosis into a more subdued band may have taken a few attempts, but Neurosis and Steve Albini have finally pulled it off, with surprisingly superb results.

:''For the band, see Neurosis (band).'' The term neurosis, also psychonerosis or neurotic disorder, in modern psychology refers to any mental disorder that, although may cause distress, does not interfere with rational thought or the persons' ability to function.
A neurosis, in psychoanalytic theory, is an ineffectual coping strategy that Sigmund Freud suggested was caused by emotions from past experience overwhelming or interfering with present experience.
In Carl Jung's theory of analytical psychology a Neurosis results from the conflict of two psychic contents, one of which must be unconscious.

Neurosis is truly one of the most unique bands in extreme music today.
Describing their sound to the uninitiated is a difficult task -- they blend tortured vocals, tribal/rhythmic drumming, slow, dense riffing, and sampling effects to create bleak landscapes of sonic noise.
They've been virtually in a musical field all to themselves, though in recent times a few bands have emerged with clear Neurosis influences (two fine examples are Cult Of Luna and Isis).
