After St. Ignatius Loyola, Louis of Granada was the first spiritual writer to formulate a method of prayer for the laity, a method which was adopted by some of the religious orders in Spain.

Also, for planning: If you leave Granada the next day, you'll be pretty rushed if you want to see more than just the Alhambra, unless you take the last bus to Sevilla on what you called "Day 1".
I agree with you, Karen, that the Granada sunset is overrated.

The hotel is convenient to the Alhambra but being at Plaza Neuva doesn’t outweigh the disadvantages unless your room has an Alhambra view; central Granada is small and other, quieter neighborhoods are still close to the Alhambra.
The sidewalk near the hotel entrance is too narrow for a wheelchair to turn, so one must proceed the long way along cobblestone streets rather than directly on the smooth sidewalk leading from the plaza.
Located not far from Plaza Neuva on Paseo Padre Munoz Carrera, this museum is up a flight of stairs and there is no elevator.

Granada is a fine city, the gypsy caves in the side of the mountain are a bit of a hike but it is downhill coming back down.
If you are driving to this hotel just get onto the motorway for Granada and follow the signs for the Alhambra, the hotel is right opposite, the route that I printed off would have taken us all through the main part of Granada.
Granada was a great experience and the hotel added to that experience.

Granada is a lovely city and very walkable with beautiful churches, the Alhambra, great shopping and wonderful tapas.
Plaza Neuva, while a great location, is extremely touristy, and we wouldnt recommend any restaurants in the area.
Still, Granada is a beautiful place and the lack of customer service at the hotel did not stop us enjoying the perfect ending to our Andalucia tour.

If arriving at Granada airport -we went with Ryanair- it couldn't be any easier, simpler or cheaper to get into town.

The location in Granada of the Melia Hotel is excellant, but although right in the centre it is positioned just off the main road so it is quiet and peaceful.
The hotel is within walking distance to the Alhambra but it is reached via a steep roadway so taking a bus from the Plaza Neuva which costs 95 cents each way and which are every few minutes is advisable.

However, a car is a real liability in Granada, Seville, or anywhere in which you want to stay near the old parts of town where the confusing, unsigned, narrow curved streets can barely be negotiated.
For example, the best hotel in Granada for us would have been the 1-star "Hotel America" because it is located in a quiet lovely garden within the Al Hambra with parking for the car.
Without hotel reservations we would definitely have had trouble in Benaojan, Seville, and especially Granada where rooms near the Alhambra are very difficult to find any time of the year.

I was partcularly delighted with Hotel Saray in Granada which is very conveniently located and very modern with good service and a great breakfast.
If you're returning or picking up the car in Granada, consider Hertz' "In-town" location at the Granada Center Hotel (which has a looo-ng lunch break.) It's just a few blocks from the E-902, or the Ronda Sur peripheral roads (C. de Mendez Nunez exit), and a cheap cab ride from Plaza Nueva.
But because our next destination from Ronda was Granada, the desk clerk advised us to take the northerly route (A-92), as it would be 2 hours, versus 5 hours by way of Nerja and the coast.
