Nevada County is Arkansas' 63rd county, formed on March 20, 1871 and named for the State of Nevada due to the perceived similarity between their physical shapes; the Arkansas county's shape roughly follows the same outline as the state's boundary when inverted.
Nevada County is alternately considered as part of the greater regions of South Arkansas or Southwest Arkansas.
In the county the population was spread out with 25.20% under the age of 18, 8.70% from 18 to 24, 26.10% from 25 to 44, 23.80% from 45 to 64, and 16.10% who were 65 years of age or older.

Through the efforts of the Nevada County Historical Society, application was made to the National Register of Historic Sites in 1977, and the depot was awarded historic site designation in November of 1978.
At the meeting of the membership and board of directors on Sunday, November 17, 2002, it was recognized that the original purpose of the Nevada County State Park Association -- to pursue the establishment of the Prairie DeAnn Battlefield as a state park -- is never going to be possible.

 Prescott-Nevada County, Arkansas: History
Prescott, the county seat of Nevada County, 96 miles southwest of Little Rock, was laid out and settled as a town in 1873.
A charter was granted the town on October 6, 1874, by H.W. Fraizer, president, and Jackson Tyson, a member of the Nevada County Board of Supervisors, on petition of P.C. Hamilton and 37 other property owners, on the claim that there were 50 qualified voters in the community.
The Cairo and Fulton Railroad, now a part of the Union Pacific line, was built across the north end of Nevada County in the summer of 1873.

Marlar was born in Tennessee on April 6, 1834, and is the son of William T. Marlar, who was born in Jarvis [sic no such county] County, Tenn., on February 16, 1810 and died November 28, 1868.
