In the nineteenth century there were several attempts to eliminate Churchill County because of its small population, but Assemblyman Lemuel Allen was able to stop it on all occasions including convincing the Governor to veto the bill after it had been passed by both houses in 1875.
Clark County was created from the southern portion of Lincoln County in 1909 and named for William A. Clark, former United States Senator from Montana, and the builder of the railroad line through the area.
Unionville was the first county seat in 1861 until the mining boom died there and it was moved to Winnemucca on the transcontinental railroad line in 1873.

Although Inyo County sent notice that it couldn't attend, a meeting of the nine Nevada counties was convened on Feb. 4, without anyone from Inyo County present, to discuss the formula for dispensing Department of Energy Yucca Mountain oversight funds to the counties.
Since Inyo County didn't agree to the new formula, Remus said if the Nevada counties press the issue with the DOE, there is a chance that all oversight money to the counties would be withheld in the pending federal 2005 federal budget year, which begins in October of 2005.

Sixteen of Nevada’s 17 counties have agreed to place a question on the Nov. 2 ballot calling for state lawmakers to stop passing laws without providing money to pay for them, state association of counties officials said Thursday.
Of Nevada’s 17 counties, only Clark County has not made a commitment, but officials there are expected to join the other counties sometime within the next few weeks, said John H. Milton III, association president.
“Counties have become more frustrated lately with unfunded mandates from the state, so I can appreciate what (the counties association) is doing, and I hope they succeed,” Osborne said.

Besides the 403,718 total voters in the four counties where 91 percent of the registered Nevada voters reside, there are at least 32,000 more voters who have cast early or absentee ballots in the remaining 13 outlying Nevada counties.
In Washoe County, there were 56,340 early and absentee voters as of Monday.
What helped Bush win Nevada in 2000 was the solid 9.4 percent edge he had over Gore in Washoe County - but that's much higher than the 4.3 percent margin that Republicans had as of Monday over Democrats in Washoe.

Sixteen years ago, Southern Nevada Water Authority filed on all of the unappropriated water in much of rural eastern Nevada, in parts of northern Clark, Nye, Lincoln and White Pine counties.
Commissioner Perea said that SNWA's plan to pipe White Pine County water to Las Vegas is a costly temporary solution that jeopardizes the state's natural resources and the future of rural Nevada.
Perea is telling Southern Nevada Water Authority not to sacrifice rural Nevada in its quest for a temporary solution to an insatiable resource problem, and letting them know they have a fight on their hands.
