It's the perfect part for McIntosh, who has just the right combination of ingenuity, charm and ambition, along with a willingness to explore her darker side that has landed her some of the meatier roles for women in television and theatre in recent years.
McIntosh may not be as well known as her Scots contemporaries Kelly Macdonald and Laura Fraser, but she has been around longer and is easily as talented.
McIntosh remembers going to the Lyceum in the days when she was in youth theatre in Edinburgh, catching classic productions of Othello and Macbeth, and in particular The Winslow Boy in 1982, the first Lyceum play she saw.

 Gormenghast: A Review
Neve McIntosh as Fuchsia has one of the toughest jobs.
Fuchsia dies in her early 30s, but in a way she never comes out of her storybook attic and her book of Romantic Tales (with its illustration, so typical of children's books, of a dragon-slaying prince who looks very much like a child himself).
McIntosh finds her note in physical exaggeration: Fuchsia grows increasingly unhappy as her ever more elaborate gowns and jewels define her as a Royal Person, and her wide-open eyes under amazing eyebrows and that expressively trembling mouth suggest the passage from youthful wildness to almost hysterical frustration.

 Gypsy Woman - Review
It DOES feature man-giant Nick "Little John" Brimble as a champion camp-site boxer, it DOES include a scene where Leon's love interest Natalie (Neve McIntosh) steals a stallion's horse-juice in order to impregnate her mare and, strangely, most of the other travellers to feature in the film look more like gnomes than gypsies.
Davenport, who's reasonably well-known for his small-screen work in 'This Life' and 'Coupling' and later went on to appear in 'Pirates of the Caribbean', produces a solid comic performance and makes for a likable lead despite his character's initial small-mindedness.
McIntosh seems a little lacking in enthusiasm for her role, but Davenport's performance and the charm of the story in general just about make up for it.

One Last Chance Review (DVD Movie/Film)
The trio of young desperadoes are likeable enough, but the banter between them feels forced and the role of Neve requires little more than to look pretty and concerned.
Scott’s casting smacks of trying to give the film a higher profile than it deserves, and while Cosmo could play Big John in his sleep, the character is overweight with cliché, despite having the film’s funniest moment at his grandson’s football match.
Worth a titter or two, Svaasand’s script takes too long to reach its contrived ending, and jokes like pouring sugar into the petrol cap of an enemy’s van should surely have been retired years ago.
