Sadly, "Never Say Die" would prove to be the final Sabbath album Ozzy would sing on unless you count the two songs he recorded with the band for the "Reunion" release a few years ago.
The songs on the album were actually written during the period when Ozzy had first left the band and it shows.
The key to a great Sabbath song is that the slow ones are almost "beautiful." Unfortunately Ozzy's vocals sound worn on this song and the lyrics do not seem to flow.

Now, don't get me wrong, this is a half decent song, but I just get an immediate whiff of filler, there was no real need for this song to be on the album, quite frankly, as it has no dirrection at all.
It's an OK song, but the lyrics are ridiculous, something like "dancing her way up" very silly.
The last song on this album, is very nearly one of Sabbath's best, it also, unusually, includes Bill Ward (excellently) on lead vocals and percussion, while Ozzy gives it a god blast on Harmonica.

Song after song you watch him first in childhood, then at Flying School, and finally up in the sky, all to the accompaniment of such a rich music!
The guitar seems to be a prominent instrument, but I need to say that each of the other instruments doesn't play only supporting roles, on the contrary, all the parts are different here, those of a varied and dynamic bass, teeming keyboards and strong vocals.
"Never Say Die" is simply a phenomenal heavy metal album, probably the most important work that has contributed to the forming of progressive metal as a separate style.

"Never say Die" would have been a great song, and it still is a good song, except for the end of the chorus when "Promise me you'll never say die...." droans on for a little too long.
"Hallelujah" is a passionate song and explains the title of the album in the line:If it all came down tonight-Safe from the losing fight.
This song has a great chorus(something other songs on this disc has lacked) and background vocals from other guys in the band which sound somewhat haunting in a grunge type of way.

Paglia writes: "Rapid, darting rhythms capture the dove's flight as it swoops in to 'wing' the poet's soul to safety." Never mind that she invents the dove: Donne is rarely rapid, and never darting, and this line is among the statelier in the history of English literature.

It really wouldn't be too far-fetched to say egalitarianism is the most prevalent "superstition" of the 20th century, perhaps of all times, given that it is a belief about causality which literally millions of people accept, for which there is no scientific evidence, which science has, in fact, disproven.
A popular song entitled "Superstition" has lyrics that are quite appropriate: "When you believe in things that you don't understand, then you suffer." This sums things up pretty well.

From "Never Been To Spain" to "Good Hearted Woman", his gruff road-hardened voice and singular guitar takes us to that place in the soul that few performers can reach, but one in which Waylon seems to live, along with his neighbors Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and only a few others.
