Topic: Never Surrender 1983 album

1983 in music - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This, their debut, is often considered the first purely thrash metal album, and helped lead the way for the diversification of heavy metal genres in the later part of the decade.
In some countries, it included the best-selling 12" record of all time, "Blue Monday"; the album was the second since forming from the ashes of Joy Division (after the suicide of Ian Curtis) and the first to achieve critical or popular success, as it was a stylistically innovative mix of synth vocals and dance-heavy beats
George Strait's Right or Wrong sold extremely well, and is a pivotal album in the development of the honky tonk revival during the rest of the decade.

 TRIUMPH - GIL MOORE
We had a hitsingle from the album called “Troublemaker”, which was used for the movie ‘Hellraiser’, and we kinda rocked very hard on that final TRIUMPH record, as we wanted to get away from the record companies involvements on how we should sound.
This was something we had never done, and happily the album sold very well once again, but it was different.
We went down to LA to record the album with a terrible producer, we hated him, and halfway he just went his own way, and during this hot summer we changed from producer, and eventually MIKE CLINK finished the job, and he was a great friendly guy.

Bloodgood   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
This album is solid from beginning to end, with the exception of “What Have I Done?”, which is soft and plodding and sounds like Bloodgood’s attempt at a contemporary Christian hit.
Overall I’ve gotten the impression that this album was not as successful as Bloodgood had hoped, perhaps in part due to the bad mix, partially because of the softer direction, and maybe also because the name Bloodgood does not lend itself well to a contemporary Christian audience.
There are two solid power ballads on the album, “Top of the Mountain” and “Changing Me” (which reminds me more than a little of “Stairway to Heaven”), where Paul Jackson’s melodic soloing shows the promise of great things to come on their next album.

As you might expect in an album with nearly four hours of music that's never been allowed to see the light of day (bootlegs notwithstanding), there are a few things present that confirm Springsteen's original judgment of their relative merit.
Three gripping outtakes from the latter album are also included, most notably the long-lost original acoustic rendition of "Born in the USA." Here, backed only by a spookily reverbed acoustic guitar and sung in the shaky, desperate tones Springsteen originally had in mind, the lyric's power is magnified tenfold.
The chief problem with this, the weakest of the four discs, lies in the fact that the global mega-hit Born in the USA is actually one of the lesser albums in Springsteen's exceptional catalogue.

Its last album, The Unforgettable Fire, contained "Pride (In the Name of Love)," its biggest-selling single ever, and last year the band was the musical heart of Amnesty International's Conspiracy of Hope tour.
But in its musical toughness and strong-willed spirituality, the album lives up to its namesake: a hardy, twisted tree that grows in the rocky deserts of the American Southwest.
But for all its gloom, the album is never a heavy-handed diatribe.

The album, although containing the hit single "Shot in the Dark," would be regarded as Osbourne's worst studio effort by numerous critics, who claimed it was redundant and uninteresting; nonetheless, the album was another smash hit.
Eye II Eye, an album in which the band experimented with pop-techno melodies, was released in the summer of 1999.
Although the album debuted high on the charts, crashing in at number three, it quickly slipped down the charts, since the reception to the album from fans, critics, and radio was mixed.

Pulp's "This Is Hardcore" is arguably the first pop album devoted entirely to the subject of the long, slow fade.
But Pulp have been at it since 1983, when they were mere teens out of working-class Sheffield, England.
With flamboyantly catchy tunes and wry lyrics that commented on everything from rave culture to social snobbery, the album was a defining moment in U.K. pop.

While the first tune was a mildly engaging bluesy number about a lost dog, subsequent songs gave way to a machine-gun hammered pace that never strayed from repetitive drum bludgeons, keyboard yammers and guitar squeals.
The song brings you back to those awkward days of an adolescent life, ("but when they're parking cars on your chest/you've still got a view of the summer sky"), capturing the growing pains and confused emotions many of us felt when first discovering how to forge our own unique identity.

Unfortunately the fears that one may have of buying a solo album from an artist who came from a big band come true here.
It's machine like 80's clichés run rampant over this platter leaving little room for a spark of creativity which is a shame as I was hoping this album would show what an underrated talent Felder may have been in the Eagles community.
The tube effect made famous by Peter Frampton is featured on "Night owl" and it does remind me somewhat of the Eagles "Those shoes" from their "The long run" album but it's not nearly as good as that track was and "Still alive" is simply a bland mid tempo closer.

Freur's debut album, and the only one ever released in the UK, flopped miserably when first released back in 1984, so it must surely qualify as a minor miracle that it has now seen the light of day on CD a full ten years later.
The single never really amounted to much chart-wise, reaching only the lower reaches of the UK charts and missing completely in the US, but it did attract some attention at the time and gained the group a cult following.
However, at least five of the tracks on the original album are excellent, none of them are actually skip-button material, and the two bonus tracks are great.

Being a power trio, Triumph were often compared to Rush, but at the start, their own brand of heavy rock remained structured and traditional, eschewing concept albums and instrumental improvisation.
Triumph's self-titled first album is extremely rare, but their widely released second LP, Rock and Roll Machine, received scattered airplay, with a cover of Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way", sung by Gil Moore.
Triumph's comeback album proved to be a lacklustre collection of rockers and ballads that lacked something of the melodic veneer of their earliest albums.
