The Alliance was created out of the United Alternative initiative launched by the Reform Party and several provincial Tory parties as a vehicle to merge with the Progressive Conservatives.
The Canadian Alliance's origins were in the Reform Party of Canada, which was founded in 1987 as a populist party but which moved to the right and became a conservative party shortly thereafter.
On December 8, the party was officially registered with Elections Canada, and on March 20, 2004, former Alliance leader Stephen Harper was elected as leader of the new party.

The focus of the new party, however, was the NewLabour Party, established by former New Zealand Labour Party politician Jim Anderton.

A Cult By Any Other Name: The New Alliance Party Dismantled and Reincarnated
NAP, which had long claimed to be a champion of the poor and minority communities, explained that for months it had been cooperating with a largely white, middle-class, politically centrist organization called the Patriot Party; it would now be expanding this relationship further by dissolving itself and joining forces with that party.
NAP members took an active role at the convention, and were elected to eight of the party’s sixteen posts, the most important of which were party secretary and party treasurer.
NAP’s history is riddled with attempts to latch on to prominent figures, especially ones in the fl community, with the intention of appearing on the cutting edge itself.

NAP, it would seem, has opted to ride the coattails of Perot's campaign (as was the case with progressive insurgent Larry Agran during the Democratic Party primaries earlier this year) which, they predicted, would "revolutionize" the electoral system.
NAP claims that, "with intent to mislead," Sunday then obtained possession of the 12,000 petition signatures that had been gathered under her tenure.
An agreement between the parties was subsequently reached and, according to Chambers, all petitions in their possession were returned to NAP [on June 21] through an intermediary -Fattier Peter Bramble of Baltimore's St. Michael's Church.

Eighteen months after the left-wing Alliance Party in Aotearoa/New Zealand suffered a damaging split and the loss of all its remaining MPs in a snap general election, there are signs that the party is (somewhat belatedly) trying to reconnect with its working class support.
At the recent Alliance National Conference held in Wellington over the weekend, November 29-30, Laila Harre formally stepped down as party leader to be replaced by Matt McCarten, secretary of the community union UNITE, which organises among beneficiaries and low-paid casual workers.
In her speech to the conference, newly-elected party President, Jill Ovens, said that the Alliance was committed to becoming, “a broad inclusive party of the Left with policies based on socialist principles – democracy, equality and social ownership”.

By the end of this period it seemed that a more plausible way to expand the influence of Newman's ideas was not through a revolutionary organization like the IWP, but instead with a party built from "new alliances" of groups marginalized by the American electoral process, namely racial minorities, homosexuals, Jew s and women.
The name "New Party" was seemingly inspired by the contemporary electoral success of the Japanese political party Shin-to Sakigake ("New Party Renegades"; see Politics of Japan).
However, intra-party struggles diminished the party's attraction, and the party became increasingly vulnerable to the accusation that is was a special interest party of Taiwanese Mainlanders.

NAP has a very bad reputation among legitimate Left groups in NYC (its home base), with speculation that either it is a front for an Intelligence agency, or that it is a “Moonie”-like psychotherapy cult trying to become the “Scientology of the Left”….
NAP’s leadership core was expelled en masse in 1978 from the People’s Party (P and F.F. national Party affiliate, 1971-1980) for intelligence gathering and secrecy.

NAP had the audacity to ask me to testify against Tisdale.  I told them that their request was outrageous.  Next thing I knew, I too was in court, and receiving calls threatening to have the Sheriff come to my home at night to arrest me.  (The Court dismissed their action against me.)

Fulani also entered the New Hampshire primary for the Democratic Party Presidential nomination in 1992, and gained some press coverage for frequent heckling of Bill Clinton's campaign appearances after she was excluded from the New Hampshire Democratic debates.
Critics say that these groups are actually a way for Newman and Fulani to manipulate the independent parties, and many respected political figures such as Ralph Nader and George Pataki have been condemned in the press for their cooperation with Newman-led organizations.
This is because Newman brought his organization into a brief alliance with the LaRouche organization in 1974, and willingly collaborated with LaRouche's National Caucus of Labor Committees (NCLC) after they had attacked other leftist groups.
