The New American Standard Bible is widely regarded as the most literally translated of 20th-century English Bible translations.
Using the ASV as its English basis, the NASB's translators went back to established Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts and revised the ASV as literally as possible, deliberately interpreting the Old Testament from a Christian standpoint, in harmony with the New Testament.

The translators and consultants who have contributed to the NASB update are conservative Bible scholars who have doctorates in Biblical languages, theology, or other advanced degrees.

The New American Standard Bible has been produced with the conviction that the words of Scripture as originally penned in the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek were inspired by God.
Variations of Old Testament wording are found in New Testament citations depending on whether the New Testament writer translated from a Hebrew text, used existing Greek or Aramaic translations, or paraphrased the material.

The NASB translators believe that to make the best translation of the Scriptures even better, change should not be made just for the sake of change.
Thus the smoother reading updated NASB refines the differences in style between the ancient languages and current English. In the process, Old English "thees," "thys," and "thous," archaic vocabulary, and sentences beginning with "And" have been updated for better English, while verses with difficult word order were restructured.
In perfecting the updated NASB, more than 20 translators spent nearly three years scrutinizing the NASB in order to modernize and maintain it in accordance with the most recent research on the oldest and best manuscripts.

But, the NASB seems to flow better, as apposed to a derivative translation of the King James Version (which gets a little difficult at times).
Take my advice, never get a New International Version (NIV) bible, the Living bible, and other goofy translations that may be out there, they paraphrase sections, and loosely translate the original language; to the point that they completely miss points/words that are clearly translatable.
Without a doubt, the New American Standard Bible is the most accurate translation next to the 1995 update.
