The highway is twinned in the Shediac region.
The highway starts at New Brunswick Highway 15 in Shediac and goes northward past Bouctouche and Richibucto to Kouchibouguac National Park, then turning northwest to Miramichi, where it crosses the Miramichi River on the Centennial Bridge.

The highway sections were designated as “Safe Corridors” based on statistics showing a crash rate 50 percent over the state rate and 1,000 or more crashes over three years.
