  Five named to New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame (01/03/12)
Peter McLean, executive/technical director for Softball New Brunswick, calls Wendy Dealy, "the finest ladies softball pitcher in the history of the sport in New Brunswick." Dealy, who was born in Loggieville (now Miramichi), N.B. in 1955, certainly has the credentials to back up that statement.
He also served as president of Basketball New Brunswick for two years, and was president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches of Canada in 1972 and 1973.
The University of New Brunswick named two scholarships in his honour in 1995, and in 1999, Atlantic University Sport named the western division of the men's basketball league the Don Nelson Division in recognition of the significant contribution which Coach Nelson has made to basketball in the region.

As chairman of the New Brunswick Figure Skating Association, Bouma was committed to improved quality of services for all skaters, coaches and official, resulting in the development of the Atlantic Training Centre for New Brunswick's elite skaters and coaches.
She was the first New Brunswicker to head the Canadian Figure Skating Association (CFSA) and during her tenure she established an athlete-centred approach, fairness, and transparency to the operation of the association.
He introduced Canadian football to the provincial high school sports program in 1960, and was the driving force behind the organization of the high school football league, serving as chairman and director of the league until his retirement in 1984.

The New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame Inc. is administered by a Board of Governors which ensures that the Hall fulfills its mission.
During the ceremony a charcoal portrait of the inductee is unveiled, and the inductee is presented with a specially designed gold pin signifying membership in the Sports Hall of Fame.
The New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame Inc. is a registered charity and will issue tax receipts for donations, including gifts-in-kind.

The names of those elected were announced by Howie Trainor of Saint John, chairman of the Sports Hall of Fame's board of governors.
He was elected to the Saint John Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.

Robert Richard, who runs a website about Durelle, said the boxer was not only a Canadian sports hero, but also a hero for New Brunswick's Acadian community.
