Civil engineering - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In modern usage, civil engineering is a broad field of engineering that deals with the planning, construction, and maintenance of fixed structures, or public works, as they are related to earth, water, or civilization and their processes.
Environmental engineering is related to the fields of hydrology, geohydrology and meteorology insofar as knowledge of water and groundwater flows is required to understand pollutant transport.
There are also civil engineers who work in the area of safety engineering and forensics engineering, applying probabilistic methods to structural design, safety analysis and even estimates of insurance losses due to natural and man-made hazards.

Conclusively, the trend of engineering education is the quintessential method by which civil engineers of the twenty-first century will adapt to the new roles for which they are needed.
Thus civil engineers have been forced to not only be able to design a sound structure, but also to compensate for any type of intentional damage that may threaten the structure.
Engineering training programs in China are carrying out this trend very well, as young engineers spend years of training in many different areas of both the sciences and humanities.
