		The Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party (NDP) is a democratic socialist political party in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
		The NDP is the successor party to the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF).
		The Newfoundland CCF was founded in 1955 when Sam Drover, a member of the Newfoundland House of Assembly for White Bay (Trinity North) left the Liberals to sit as a CCFer.

	CUPE Tory candidate wins Nfld. byelection shocker
		Grand Falls, Newfoundland - Rex Barnes, a long-time Canadian Union of Public Employees activist, was elected to the House of Commons as Progressive Conservative Monday in one of seven federal byelections.
		His victory was a major upset in the riding that popular former Liberal MP George Baker had won in every election since 1974 and that the party had held in every election but one since Newfoundland joined Confederation in 1949.
