New rail stations and track were added, however, to the main north-south line, resulting in a rapid-rail route that stretches from the Chamblee-Dunwoody area in north DeKalb County through downtown Atlanta to the airport on the south side of the region.

Georgia served by waiting, and when at last Washington could assign Greene and Lee to the army of the South, the recapture of Savannah followed closely upon that of Atlanta, and the last British post had been abandoned in the colony before the surrender at Yorktown.

 Story of Georgia's Capitols and Capital Cities
Here a new amendment to the Constitution of 1789 was adopted, officially designating Louisville as the "permanent seat of government" and also directing that the governor and other state officials be in the new capitol at Louisville before the next meeting of the legislature.
A new constitution was subsequently adopted, elections held, and, in December 1865, the legislature met at the capitol in Milledgeville.
A new constitutional convention was called for the state, and General Pope ordered the convention to assemble in Atlanta, reportedly because of reports that Milledgeville innkeepers had proclaimed that fl delegates to the convention would not be welcome in their inns.

The Battle of New Georgia was a battle of the Pacific campaign of World War II.
It was the part of Operation Cartwheel conducted by the Allied Pacific Ocean Areas command, and was aimed at occurred in the New Georgia group of islands, in the central Solomon Islands from June 20, 1943 to August 25 1943 between Allied forces and the Empire of Japan.
The Japanese had captured New Georgia in 1942 and built an airbase at Munda Point which began operations in December 1942 to support the battle of Guadalcanal.

Landings on New Georgia began as early as June 20, 1943 when Marines, followed by Army forces the next day, landed at Segi Point and moved overland to take Viru Harbor on July 1.
There were various other landings on New Georgia, but the principal effort, with Munda as its objective, began on June 10, 1943 (D-Day for this phase of the operation) with a landing on Rendova Island, just off New Georgia and near Munda.
Kolombangara was bypassed with the landing of Army, Marine, and New Zealand troops on Vella Lavella and Arundel Islands.
