Nazi Germany, officially called the German Reich (Deutsches Reich), and later the Greater German Reich (Großdeutsches Reich), refers to Germany in the years 1933 to 1945, when it was governed by the Nazi Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, NSDAP), with Führer Adolf Hitler as chancellor and, from 1934, head of state.
Most ordinary Germans, happy with the improving economy and better standard of living, remained obedient and quiet, but many political opponents, especially communists and some types of socialists, were reported by omnipresent eavesdropping spies, and put in prison camps where they were severely mistreated, and many tortured and killed.
All German annexations in Europe after 1937, such as the Sudetenland, were reversed, and in addition Germany's eastern border was shifted westwards to the Oder-Neisse line, effectively reducing Germany in size by approximately 25% compared to her 1937 border.

In 1936 Hitler invaded the Rhineland and the Sudetenland.
Germans learned bad American behavior via old films, via WWI, and via the widespread use of the straight-arm salute by German-American groups in the USA, that led to its adoption later by the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (Nazi Party).
The National Socialist German Workers’ Party had been in existence since 1920 (with electoral breakthroughs in 1930 and dictatorship in 1933) and the invasion of Poland in WWII in 1939 (as allies with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in a pact to divide up Europe).

Entitled "German History in Images and Testimonials from Two Millennia", the collection is made up of 8,000 historical objects—from battlefield relics to landmark documents and works of art—displayed over two floors of the former Prussian armory building, the Zeughaus, in central Berlin.
The German Historical Museum is a government-funded brainchild of former Chancellor Helmut Kohl and some see the exhibition as an attempt by the country's political class to put its own stamp on history.
A highlight from the early 19th century is a triangular hat that Prussian Field Marshal Gebhard Leberecht von Bluecher captured from Napoleon as the defeated French emperor fled the battlefield at Waterloo.

With the decimation of the German army in the West in a sequence of summer encirclement battles at Falaise, the Seine river, and finally the Mons pocket in Belgium, the Wehrmacht was in headlong retreat.

According to a survey of the German Polis Institute published in July 2004, 5 percent of youth admire Hitler; 15 percent think Nazism was good in theory but bad in practice; and 14 percent believe foreigners should leave Germany to the Germans.
The reason for this unusual step by the Federal German Parliament can be seen in the growing acceptance of antisemitic trends, in the rising influence of extreme right-wing parties and their dissemination of antisemitic ideology which has begun to penetrate the mainstream (see Hohmann affair above), and in the rise of violent manifestations against Jews.

The German army will certainly destroy the Russian forces in Moscow and will sweep Stalin east of the Urals where he will be so far removed from Reichs territory that it will be impossible for him to launch any counterattacks.
He replied that the Germans had been thinking of this for some time past, and he thought that next Summer it would not be impossible to fly in one hop from somewhere near the URALS to MANCHURIA.
When the leading edge of the German Army was before Moscow, the capital was subject to heavy air raids by the Luftwaffe, and the bulk of the Soviet government and the diplomatic corps had fled.

However, for the new dictator, Adolf Hitler, no amount of patriotism or love of country by the Jews could overcome the very fact that they were Jews, and thus in Hitler's mind, the "eternal enemies" of the German Volk (racial community).
This meant that innocent German citizens had no one to turn to as they were being beaten up by rowdy young storm troopers drunk with their newfound power and quite often drunk on beer.
New arrivals at Dachau were never told how long they would be imprisoned, a factor that weakened their morale and left them more vulnerable to the remolding that would follow.

Until 1935 the organization was openly supported by the Third Reich, although soon Nazi officials realized the organization was doing more harm than good in America and in December 1935 Hess ordered that all German citizens leave the Friends of New Germany; also, all the group’s leaders were recalled to Germany.
Although they were instructed not to accept German citizens in their organization, they were not about to turn down anyone interested and many immigrants joined.
Although this organization tried to differentiate itself from the previously unsuccessful Friends of New Germany, the German Foreign Ministry commented that “In reality...they are the same people, with the same principles, and the same appearance”.

By April 29, the once mighty German Reich had been reduced to an area the size of a large football field, stretching between Potsdamer Platz and Friedrichstrasse.
You know, the German culture and society is far unlike the culture and the society from which I came, and of course the time of Hitler was far before my own time, but I could never understand his "personal appeal," this "charisma" stuff.
So one has to reasonably conclude that the entire German people (Germans still in Germany, not those of German descent in other parts of the world) were, as they are today, too easily duped by con-men, shams, counterfeits, fakes, buncombe artists, and fairy tales.

Nazi Eagles   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
The Third Reich government adopted the eagle as a national symbol (Hoheitszeichen), in common with previous German governments and several other European countries.
Originally, the design was to show the eagle's head facing to its right when used as a national symbol, and to its left when used as a Nazi Party symbol, but this convention was not always followed.
In spite of a series of proclamations and orders from the Allied Occupation Forces in 1945-46, forbidding the wearing or display of Nazi uniforms or insignia, and ordering the removal of Nazi monuments, statues, and street signs, a number of these Reichs Eagles remain today (most are missing their swastikas, but not all).
