Though Lenox Township has earned millions in revenue from the landfill, Gardner said the money is "not worth the headaches" involved in serving as the trash depository for all of Macomb County, numerous Ontario towns and the Toronto suburbs.
For the county, the closure of Pine Tree Acres would mean establishing a new landfill in a county that is filling up with residential subdivisions and has few open spaces left.
