Scholars' voices are seldom heard in New Jersey, and therefore their work is seldom disseminated to the public, in contrast to the situation in states such as Massachusetts and South Carolina where the greatest number of scholarly publications per capita are produced.
When New Jersey history is taught in U.S. history courses on the high school level, teachers use it as a metaphor illustrative of major topics such as early European settlement, the American Revolution, industrialization, immigration, political reform, and labor history.

 Potteries of Trenton Society--Stoneware Symposium
The New Jersey/New York region was critical in the development of the stoneware industry in the United States during the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
The New Jersey Historical Society (jerseyhistory.org) is a state-wide, private, non-profit historical museum, library, and archives dedicated to collecting, preserving, and interpreting the rich and intricate political, social, cultural and economic history of New Jersey to the broadest possible audiences.
Slightly later in the mid-18th century, Captain James Morgan, a key figure in the history of New Jersey stoneware and owner of substantial clay-bearing acreage, opened a stoneware manufactory in Cheesequake, where he trained the next generation of stoneware potters in the region, among whom were his son, General James Morgan and son-in-law Thomas Warne.

In 1782, Trenton, New Jersey, was selected as the meeting-place of a Court of Commissioners appointed by the Continental Congress to hear and determine a controversy which involved a claim by Connecticut to the ownership and jurisdiction over a considerable portion of northern Pennsylvania.
The history of the emancipation of slaves in New Jersey is divided into three periods: the first, that of the Proprietary Colony, 1664-1702; the second, the Province of the Crown, 1702-1776; the third, the era of the State of New Jersey.
Southern New Jersey had a plentiful supply of forage and food, but it could not be taken to Valley Forge because of the scarcity of horses and wagos for the long haul necessary to avoid the enemy in Philadelphia, and who controlled the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers near Philadelphia.

The 1800-1900 index was created by WPA workers in the 1930's; recently the work of indexing has been resumed by volunteers, at first, for the Old Mill Hill Society and, now, for the Trenton Historical Society.

 NJDARM: New Jersey State Historical Advisory Board (SHRAB)
The State Historical Records Advisory Board was established in 1975 to serve as the central advisory body for historical records planning in the state, and as a conduit and review body for grant projects funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) in support of archival and records management programs.
In October 2001, the board published its Strategic Plan to Improve the Preservation, Collection, and Use of New Jersey Historical Records, culminating a sixteen-month planning process, funded principally by NHPRC.
The project collected data on record repositories throughout the state, conducted public hearings and focus-group sessions for interested parties, and ultimately produced a five-year strategic plan for improving the conditions and access of historical records in the state.

Under a new initiative of its annual Adopt-a-School program, The New Jersey Historical Society, in collaboration with poets of the Montclair-based nonprofit organization SpriralBridge, is creating lessons that combine poetry with primary sources from the historical society's archives and library.
While learning how a museum exhibition is put together, and designing their own exhibit based on primary sources, including poetry by NJ poets and archival photographs, the students are using poetry to tell stories of the past, express their responses to history and relate more personally to those events.
