This road is part of the current system, begun in the 1927 renumbering and heavily modified by the 1953 renumbering.

When the "New Jersey Highway Authority" http://gspkwy.state.nj.us/ first established the 173 mile stretch known as the Garden State Parkway, the speed was posted at 55mph.
I could only speculate that maybe these were more urban areas,(If anywhere in New Jersey is really urban), or maybe it's that wonderful coffee "WaWa" http://www.wawa.com serves me every day that jolts one into a legal stimulated driving high.
New Jersey, I have my own slogan for this state of confusion: "We are all in a hurry to get nowhere fast." Why do we rush to work, run to school, try to meet a deadline, when we really don't want to be at these places?
