New Jersey State Highway 439 is a state highway in New Jersey, United States.
It is a partial loop around Elizabeth, New Jersey, running from Interstate 278 in Linden, New Jersey to an intersection with New Jersey State Highway 27 in Elizabeth.
The number was chosen to fit in with a now long-dead New York State Highway 439.

The New Jersey section of Interstate 278, originally known as the Union Freeway, was first proposed in 1955 as an urban connecting route in the National System of Interstate and Defense Highways.

However, the New Jersey State Board of Commerce attacked the idea of building a low-level bridge, and instead advocated constructing a bridge with a 135-foot clearance to insure the viability of New Jersey ports.
The two state legislatures acceded to this demand, and assigned construction of the bridge to a new bi-state agency: the Port of New York Authority.
During the spring of 1924, the state legislatures of New York and New Jersey authorized construction of the Goethals Bridge and the Outerbridge Crossing, and allocated $3 million for preliminary design and engineering studies.

The union representing New York state troopers and state police Thursday urged its members to refuse to drive Ford Crown Victoria patrol cars until the vehicles are retrofitted to protect the fuel tanks from being punctured in crashes.
Last week, an influential New York state senator called for his state to join Florida and Arizona in halting purchases of the Crown Victoria for police officers after the death of a state trooper December 19.
New York state police have begun retrofitting police cars with the protective shield and expects to have all the vehicles finished by January 10.

Senate Bill 439 was passed during the 78th Regular Session of the Texas Legislature updating Section 502.409 of the Transportation Code regulating wrong, fictitious, altered, or obscured license plates.
The impetus for Senate Bill 439 originated with state toll road authorities experiencing an alarming degree of violations at toll facilities due to the use of illuminated devices and plastic coatings that render the characters and state on license plates undetectable to toll enforcement cameras.
Section 502.409, as modified by Senate Bill 439, now additionally prohibits the attachment of "reflective" matter to a license plate and any illuminated device or emblem that interferes with the readability of the letters, numbers, or name of the state on the license plate.
