New Jersey State Highway 59 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
New Jersey State Highway 59 is the shortest state highway in New Jersey across the NJ Transit railroad on Lincoln Avenue in Cranford, New Jersey and Garwood, New Jersey connecting Union County, New Jersey County Road 610 (South Avenue) with New Jersey State Highway 28 (North Avenue).
It was once proposed to extend southeast crossing the Garden State Parkway at exit 136 (Centennial Avenue) and then use Stiles Street to US 1/US 9; it was also planned north to Paterson.
This road is part of the current system, begun in the 1927 renumbering and heavily modified by the 1953 renumbering.

New Jersey Court Finds City May Be Liable for Icy Patch on State Highway
Robinson argued the City was responsible for the icy highway because the ice was a dangerous condition that existed on public property.
Because it was a state highway, however, the trial judge instructed the jury that "a public entity is responsible for injuries proximately caused by a dangerous condition of its property."
Moreover, where the jury was told that the highway was within the City but was not owned by the City, the jury instructions included a contradiction in the delineation of the City's responsibility toward maintaining its property.

The necessity for providing highway facilities in New Jersey to serve urban population centers in New York and Pennsylvania is not limited to the provision of interstate circumferentials, but applies also to the provision of distributor or cross-connecting routes for traffic destined to various points within the central urban areas.
According to state transportation commissioner Thomas Downs, the 20-mile section of I-287 represented "the largest unopened section of interstate highway in the United States today." The entire I-287 metropolitan beltway became fully operational in August 1994, when the reconstructed EXIT 15 on the New York State Thruway was opened to traffic.

Note: The number of States for which SOII data are available varies from year to year because not all States have survey sample sizes sufficient to generate State specific estimates of workplace injuries and illnesses.
Among those States that do generate State estimates, the sample sizes often are not sufficient to generate estimates at the same level of detail as are available from the national estimates.
The industries for which data are available also vary among States, primarily due to the differences in industry concentration and sample size from one State to the next.
