New London County in southeastern Connecticut was one of the first four counties established in the colony, and a maritime and commercial center.
It was the last county established prior to the Revolution, and the most rural and least economically developed area in Connecticut.

 New London County Courthouse
Built in 1784, it was described by architectural historian William Warren as "an ambitious and expensive undertaking for a small region in the New Republic." The Courthouse was built to replace the courthouse burned by the British during the American Revolution.
The building originally was located at the head of State Street in New London but in 1839 was moved back a little to its present location at the head of Huntington Street.
After numerous renovations and additions it still serves New London County and surrounding areas in its capacity as the New London Judicial District Courthouse.

RISMEDIA, December 22, 2006-(MCT)-Housing sales in New London County fell nearly 19 percent during October and skidded more than 33 percent in nearby Windham County, according to figures from a Boston-based real estate firm.
The Warren Group, which publishes the Commercial Record real estate newspaper, said New London County's 18.8 percent fall in sales during October compared to a statewide decline of 7.7 percent.
New London County's condominium market also lost steam during October, with sales falling 55.4 percent.
